B9 RS4 vs The Rest...and the S

Amazing video that. Probably not much in it performance wise I guess as new one more powerful but heavier?

Exactly that. I don't know how it is that they charge £425 for carbon atlas inlays in the S4 but in the RS4 they're £900! It's the exact same part... Red brake calipers - £300 versus £400. Why? They're the same calipers as far as I'm aware? Just ridiculous.

Exactly why I’m not having either on mine!!

Surely, and I’ve not studied the specs... an equivalent car from early 2000 to a 2018 car the old car should receive a total spanking....

Otherwise our evolution sucks.... maybe it does and I’m wrong :frown:

Oh I agree but the old one is lighter and 390hp? Torque might give the new one a jump on the old one though?

Auditography's B5 is tuned to 460bhp I believe.

Should have an extended test drive. Hopefully an afternoon or all day Mayday weekend.

Great! Mine is being delivered on trade plates on 28 Feb. Maybe a midnight drive is called for?

Can't spank it though can you agonising breaking in period.

What is the advice on this? Keep Revs below 7000 ok ?

Haha. Yes! Definitely below that. Everyone has a different opinion tbh. Don't drive it like you stole it. First 500 miles break into each rev range gradually and second 500 miles don't red line it. There's threads on this though.

I understood it was to generally drive gently but vary Rev range. I always take new cars gently for first 2000 miles.

Yeah exactly. Can't go wrong with that.

Dealer doesn't reckon the RS Design Pack will come to uk.

I'm not sure. The RS3 has it and launch cars in right hand drive had it too. So, shouldn't be an issue. Any way of finding out for sure? It's a must for me, personally.

The Alcantara wheel looks nice but I'm not at all sure how practical it is. Happy with the perf leather on mine. Strange how Alcantara has moved position on RS3 PFL and FL. Whatever I love it on the doors but frankly more than happy not having it on the wheel and gearlever. As for poncy RS mats and belts they aren't for me either.

Yeah it's strictly the wheel the gear lever. Just think it adds something different to the cabin.

Dealer reckons this doesn’t matter any more as the engine protects itself for the first few thousand miles

Seen my first one on the road today. Nardo with black pack and it threw me because there's a guy with an RS6 in that spec that passes me in morning every day haha. Looked pretty damn mean in all honesty.
The more I hear that M Performance exhaust on the blokes M140i at work, the more I'd really like to have an RS4 with that deep, throaty warble. It's just deep down dirty and loud. Awesome. As I said when the car launched, I imagined the V6 and exhaust sounding on par with a competition car. Think I'll explore custom options if I get one.

Looking at the Carbon Edition on both the 4 and the 5, has anybody else noticed the huge difference? The ummmm...roof? The 4 seems to be getting robbed. As do the people that go for it. I've specced the standard and carbon one and, without the DRC, there's not much in it. You're not saving much at all.

I suspect the CE was a bit of a money spinner. I think we'll see some real pricing and pack changes this year.

The biggest rip off on the RS4 is the Carbon Trim on the standard version £5k!!! I suppose charging that much makes £10k for the Carbon edition more bearable as you will probably get back £5k after 3 years in Residual value whereas the Carbon trim will probably return £0.

Really? Yeah I guess you're right. Majority of buyers will only be interested in whether it's a Carbon 'Edition' and not a carbon 'pack'. When you look at the Alpha, you're getting a LOT for your money. Carbon bonnet too!

Exactly as A4/S4 Black Edition models are worth more than a standard S Line with Black pack. The lifetime cost is rarely affected by 'extras' apart from Pan Roof and decent music. Storage packs and different trim are nice to haves but rarely find a 'must have' buyer.

Agreed. The Dynamic Pack will come soon to all buyers. I think I'd like the milled wheels but won't be shelling out for a CE just to get them. With the CE, it would be worth looking at the ABT edition. Richter could put that together I'm sure.

Someone has posted about the Dynamic pack. It is available elsewhere in Europe and includes Sports Diff which in the UK is standard.
Noisier exhaust, no performance increase, nice to have maybe but £1200.. DRC £2000 I'm not convinced having done a side to side with Mag ride and no mag ride on RS3 I didn't bother. Will I miss DRC on RS4, maybe, maybe not... but I would miss my Sunroof and Comfort and Sound pack for sure! It's also interesting looking at the price of options in the EU vs UK. They have increased significantly in the UK as a result of poor exchange rates due according to pundits down to Brexit.

Looking forward to my days test drive in May. Although it's certainly going to make the wait seem like an age haha. I 'could' go new but, it would require a significant £10k+ deposit from myself. Doable in a couple of years as coming into a bit of money in the way of bonus.

But, I'm not a millionaire and, for what...4 years worth of car experience? Not sure I can justify it. Tut, by time I pull the trigger it'll be facelift time at least I'm in same boat as @Robbe -RS6 demonstrator will be gone when I test the 4 in May.

German Configurator is leaps and bounds ahead of Audi UK. C'mon Audi...not worth mentioning the price of this spec. Just enjoy.

Not 100% sure about the Sportback. The B8 looked like ridiculous bolt on in my opinion after the beautiful coupe. The B9 looks better but not sure there will be a huge market for an RS5 Sportback in the UK.

I reckon it'll be better than you think. The reception that is. People yearning for the RS4 saloon might be interested. I think the new sportback looks gorgeous. But yeah, for me, it'd always be the 4. Nice that they're trying new RS cars though.

I’m sure there will be a market for an RS5 Sportback. As mentioned elsewhere I did seriously think about keeping RS3 and getting an S5 Sportback to replace yawn boring 66 Tdi Sline quattro A4 Avant. Borrowed a brand new S5 Sportback for 3 days and whilst nice it just seemed to be missing the smiles you get from an RS. So it’s an RS4 and maybe a hack for local trips where RS may be OTT. Golf GTI mk 5? Scirocco?

Golf. Every day. I'd love to be in a position where I could run two cars. But my commute is too long for something that could pass out at any moment haha. An old Golf though...nice

Had the same RG back in the day. If I ever won the lottery I’d commission VW to build me a new one. Everything has a price.
