Morning,

Currently driving a 2010 BMW X5 which is up for sale, I am looking to replace it with an A6 Avant as I hope to replicate the interior space and load capacity but no requirement for the SUV ride height etc.

I notice on a few threads people refer to a pre facelift and facelift can someone tell me when the facelift was and what changed?

Not really looking for 'performance' out of this car so the 3.0Tdi wont really be necessary, is the 2.0Tdi provided in one power output or do they confuse matters by offering several differing outputs?

When I was looking at an Audi some years ago I was warned to stay away from multitronic gearboxes but when looking at the classifieds a lot of the A6's seem to have them, have they improved over the years and are they considered to be a smooth and reliable gearbox to have?

Hoping to buy at least an S-Line hopefully a Black Edition but have seen several 'Ultra' models can someone elaborate on what this might add?

I am hopeful this change should take place fairly soon, its mainly been brought about by a change in job circumstances so the A6 will be the family workhorse and daily commuting vehicle. It certainly looks like a lovely place to spend time, we don't travel huge distances but do make the occasional run up to Nottigham to see family and across to London to visit friends. I am a big fan of interiors and the A6 looks very modern, is there much in the way of ambient lighting in the cockpit? Manufacturers seem to be bringing this in more and more these days and I think it makes a huge difference to the interior or a car. Also is it BOSE or B&O stereo which was offered as an option from new and is it worth finding one with it fitted, few threads I have read with stock system refer to it as quite 'flat'.

Thanks in advance and of course will keep you posted, if it all goes to plan we should be an all Audi household as my wife has just collected a Misano Red A1 S-Line!

Hi Si,

I've had two C7 A6 avants a 2013 S Line and a facelift 2017 Black Edition both 2.0l diesels. Pre facelift was 177 ps multitronic and my current facelift is a 190 ps ultra S-Tronic. Audi facelifted the A6 in 2015, the front and rear bumpers were changed as were the side skirts (for S line) and the front/rear lights. Have a look on autotrader for some examples and the differences are pretty obvious.

I never really had any problems with my multitronic box and if I'm honest it was probably smoother than than the S tronic I replaced it with but the S tronic is apparently the more durable gearbox and still pretty smooth.

Bose comes as standard on black edition models as does heated electric seats, folding mirrors and remote boot opening and gloss black inlays for the interior.

If you have any more questions just let me know :)

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the information, very useful thank you. I think the extras fitted to the Black Edition make that a dead cert for me, working shifts I have lots of early morning starts/finishes and heated seats I would really miss.

Also the lack of chrome appeals, if I ended up with S Line I would probably look to have t wrapped and don’t now how successful that would be?

Would be great to get a facelift model although I am pushing my budget by the looks of it. Not averse to a high mileage example providing it has well documented service history, so that could always open some doors.

Will see what happens with sale of my X5 and keep looking, if I think of anything else I will let you know cheers.

Yeah the heated seats are great, don't think I'd be without them now. Ive been thinking about what I posted earlier and I'm not 100% sure pre facelift BE cars came with heated seats so it'll be worth checking any cars you're interested in.

Lack of chrome is definitely a bonus, however I think it's relatively easy to de-chrome by wrapping the trim.

Anyway good luck with the sale of the X5

I had the chrome trim on my sline wrapped plus had the rear windows tinted and car debadged (it's saloon not avant though). Apart from the dot matrix on the edge on the tint it looks like a BE now. I had it done a year ago and it was about 200-250 I think.
