Hi

I have recently purchased a 65 reg s1 with 12000 miles on the clock which is due to be picked up Monday the 15th of January, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently sharing an 17 reg, A3 1.6 tdi s line with the missus so, looking forward to some fun and not getting moaned at when I have a little moment.

I am just wondering if anybody has any tips to get me started. I'm looking at doing a bit of tuning but it's covered with Audi's warranty until December this year.

Is their any other tweaks mods I could get done without voiding Audi's warantee ??

I'm in the market for a flat bottom steering wheel and aliminium gear knob at present to smarten her up a touch.
I've also looked at the revo intake kit but again unsure regarding warantee's ect

Again any help or pointers would be great.

Thanks

Ryan from Liverpool

Hello Ryan. Congrats on the new purchase and you’ll love it. I don’t think you can do any map without it being noticed by Audi, although there is a few plug in boxes which supposedly don’t leave any trace. Personally, I think the standard power is more than enough. I’m sure others will give you a better detailed opinion.

Cheers mate, from the test drive it felt really nice and pulled in every gear, which was great. Maybe just do cosmetic changes for now and see how I get on.
I don't want to go silly with it, and have to start upgrading brakes, suspension ect ect. Just thought could squeeze a bit bhp and torque from the stock.

Another point you will see discussed is the clutch on the S1....defo need upgraded when going for more power.

Hi

I bought a DTUK box for the S1 last summer, it's been on the car ever since and supposedly adds 50ish bhp although I've not dyno'd it. I've also fitted the following:
Quattro gear knob - it looks fab!
Black matte Audi rings - I didn't like the chrome look on a black S1
Eibach 15mm spacers - makes the wheels fill the arch better, apparently improves handling but the car is too good to notice that :)
Go Fast Bits DVX valve - allows adjustment of the boost and also variable blow off noise (from none to 100% chav :) )

So far the OEM clutch has been fine despite the horror stories you hear, I don't launch, as there's no need, the acceleration from a stop is awesome without killing the clutch and I avoid accelerating in higher gears (5 or 6) from low revs. Basically drive properly and not lazy :)

I had the first service done by my local Audi franchise but the initial price (before they price matched) was a joke so I'm using a local independent Audi specialist from here on out. There's only 3m warranty left anyway and therefore I don't have to worry about Audi looking at the mods. I'm also putting the money aside for a Sachs Organic clutch should it ever be needed.

I find the aluminium gear knob quite cold to touch in the winter, feels nice though when it eventually warms up.

First thing i'd recommend is replace the fag lighter with a USB plug in port (to charge your phone), secondly, buy an SD card to put your favorite tunes on to.

Thanks for your advice chaps

Picked Charlene up today and by god does she pull after about 3500 rpm - 4000 rpm.

Also on the way home I was getting 41 mpg doing 65mph ( bad traffic ). She does drink though but who cares she's so fun.

@lfcrule1972

I'll have a little mooch at the bits but I definitely want some extra sound from that exhaust.

So is yours like stage 1 now is it?? Also can you really tell the difference ?? Like is it worth it ??

@Dobboy

It's Bluetooth isn't it mate so just connect him upto to slotifiy on my phone and it's fine.

Like you I was v impressed with the standard S1 when I first started driving it, after a while I wondered what a remap/DTUK box would do to the performance and it is noticeable. With the box you get a range of settings and some are v noticeable and others less so, overall though you can feel the difference once installed.

I might get mine mapped at some point in 2018 although there really isn't any need as I think it would feel similar to the box.

Re the exhaust, I only really use Dynamic mode (which is the noisiest and imho best setting :) ) how did you get 41mpg?? Were you in Efficiency mode? I'm going to be driving 90 miles a day soon so may need to consider that (boo!) depending on the amount of fill ups :D

@lfc rule

Yeah very impressed to say the least when I test drove it I didn't plant it properly as was worried what the dealer would say.

So maybe the box/map is the way to go then after the warantee expires in December.

In relation to the mpg it stopped at 35mpg for a whilst then went up. I had her on cruise control set about 60 mph due the Manchester traffic and it was ok but as you say it drinks.

I've only driven her in dynamic since pick up. Picked her up and she was in auto

When your traveling 90 miles a day maybe try efficiency, I would.
On the motorway in rush hour it's near enough impossible to have fun anyway.

Taking mine to audi tomorrow for it's first service. What tyre pressure do you run at mate ??

I run my tyre pressures at whatever the manual says (can't remember what that is at the mo) It was really firm on the OEM Bridgestones but the replacement Michelin PSS seem to be more flexible so although it's still a firm ride it's more comfortable :)

Here's a quick pick of mine before I picked her up. 12000 miles previous owner was an old man looking to get something more practical.

Sorted.

Took to Audi Liverpool yesterday as still got some warantee left and seems to be all fine.
Only a slightly worn drivers side tyre 3.9mm, the rest are over 5mm but I'm probably going to change the current tyres - bridgestone potenza's, to Pirelli pss in the summer anyway so didn't get the change.

Gave her a good run today and pushed her a bit. Very very enjoyable and lovely to drive.
