Hi

Cannon a sub 4/5 degree start is just paging the button straight away correct? Does it have a built in delay for glow plugs?

Had couple of times when it sounds to struggle but battery is fine?

Yes it’s fine the ECU will determine what to do with different ambient temperatures.

And the battery could of course be on the verge of failure. Charge it up with a proper charger, and be sure to have it work through the winter.
