Halogen conversion

They're the best I've seen, due to the fact you can turn the bulb to get a proper beam.

I would stay clear of the LED replacements at the moment. They are getting better but unless you put them in a projector lens you wont really benefit.
Have a look at The Retrofit Source (i have converted mine from there) or EMTuning. If you cant afford projectors then i would go for Phillips X-treme Vision. I've tried lots of bulbs in the wife's A3 and these are the best IMO.

Just cause they are white bulbs, doesn't mean they will give much more usable light on the road. I would either do a proper hid retrofit or use better halogen bulbs such as Osram Nightbreaker or Philips Extreme vision, much cheaper option as well.

Thanks to all of you. I will have a look at all options. So far, the cheapest option are the bulbs. Might go for them and see if the results are more than enough.

Honestly, thought it'd be more complicated lol

Remember if your going to do a light conversion it will cost and best not to cut corners as you only get what you pay for .All the best.
You might want to consider having a worth with @Ash187 @NHN ( retrofitters ) or @t8ups ( lights mam ) and see what they maybe be able to offer you .

Thanks all. Got myself some Oseam Night Breakers and looking into the Philips Xtreme vision.

I will compare and contrast, make a decision whether they are adequate, see if I will have to go for a HID conversion.

The Philips Racing Vision seem to look VERY tempting too.

Also interested to see your follow up comments. Standard halogens on mine are just about adequate.

Racing vision are anew bulb so we're not in any comparisons when I was shopping for bulbs. The Nightbreakers were always the winners in tests the last few years. When you hear the word 'Racing' it tends to appeal to the the go faster bolt on accessory boys and does not mean better.
Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on these bulbs, keep us posted.

Haven't forgot about you guys, bare with me. Finally picked up my bulbs today, hoping to install and test over the weekend. Didn't realise I had to get H4s, so I also have 3x H7s lol.

H4s? Surely not in an A3?

@SootySport Yah, I got the Osram Nightbreakers Unlimited (I realized too late that there are also Nightbreakers Laser, which have a slightly better range), Phillips Racing Vision and Phillips Xtreme Vision.

@fangio I found out that all of my bulbs in the car are H7s, so scratch that, no H4s needed.

All in all, a very good improvement, really happy! I particularly noticed how the new bulbs light up left, right and center. They also eliminate that annoying in-between dark spot you get in the center with the standard halogens and emit a whiter light. Also, the range is fantastic!

I was trying to find some bad points about these while driving, but nothing really comes to mind, it is just an overall improvement.

Racing Vision
seem to illuminate the road ahead the best it seems, reflecting distant objects such as signs particularly well. As mentioned previously, they cover the whole road really well left, right and center, and I do not think they blind other users (judged by standing at a distance from the front of car) - at least not as bad as some of the tw*ts out there with their cheap HIDs... :whip:.

Nightbreakers Unlimited and Xtreme Vision are quite close, with the latter winning by range (as on paper). Although I do think using the Laser version would be of a fairer comparison. I'm not sure if this is just me, but I feel like Xtreme Vision has an ever-so-slightly whiter light than Racing Vision, therefore making me feel it is also brighter. I believe it is due to the coating on the Osram, giving it a slight blue tint, therefore making it darker?.

If I had to pick one type of bulb, I'd honestly go with whatever is cheaper if driving on everyday roads. If you do happen to cross some country-type and Oh-Sh*t-I-Can't-See roads, go with either Racing Vision or Xtreme Vision as there is virtually no noticeable difference between the two but are the brightest and furthest out of the 3.

So far I was only able to take pics of Racing Vision, but if any of you want to see the others, let me know (I hope the quality is good enough...I don't think I set my phone camera settings correctly for this).

See attached. Cut-off on standard bulbs (Sorry, not sure how to make it stop blowing up like this...nonetheless click on the "Imgur" logo to see the image):

Hope this helps someone in the future, even if the comparison seems to be all over the place...this is why I'm not a journalist lol.

Lol I screwed up that cutoff. ..I can't edit the post...just ignore it. The cutoff in reality is waaaaay worse.

Hope you guys had a great Xmas. Here's to an even better New Year.
