First please forgive me for my lack of knowledge of cars

Could someone please explain to me what is a ‘Res delete’ with the exhaust is? Plus what’s the benefits of having it done??

This question is down to someone asking if my 2014 S3 had it, I just said no it’s completely stuck.

Thanks for your time.

ok...please forgive me taking the Michael....but are they seriously interested in a car that is stuck? lol
"res delete"....otherwise known as resonator delete....basically the mid-muffler (which supresses exhaust sound) is removed (deleted) and replaced by a piece of straight pipe (to enhance/increase your exhaust sound). some say it makes the car "drone" at certain revs (very annoying/intrusive in the cabin on a motorway say)....but many people like it as its a cheap mod to make your car sound more eventful (also chavvy)....

Chavvy? Personal taste I don’t think just because a car is loud it is chavvy. That’s like saying all track or race/rally cars are chavvy just because they are louder ...

It all depends on what type of Sound the car emanates that could describe it as being chavvy mate

It is in my opinion a cheap way to achieve, as has been noted before an exhaust note that is garish/chavvy and prone to drone. Definitely, not a nicely tuned sports exhaust and remember this is a four banger not a 6/8 or 12, which are capable of some very sweet sounds. Again just my opinion, and yes, I have driven an S3 with this mod.
If you want a nice exhaust sound, look at some of the aftermarket cat back systems.

Indeed.....

When I did the Golf R Res Delete I made the mistake of coding exhaust flaps open all the time......
safe to say the noise at certain RPM was unbearable, reversing the coding of the flaps made things a lot better.

As good as these 4 pots are, they don’t have much character at all.

For that you’d need the 5 pot / 6 pot or probably the last of the Audi V8’s.

Very true but a res delete I would say is suttle it’s not like he’s fitted a cherry bomb exhaust or a straight through haha

Anything that makes a car louder and an annoyance to others IS chavvy.

Id say its much less chavvy than a full blown stainless set up and never going to annoy anyone in comparison:wtf:

I have one fitted but taking it back out and going to weld on an anti drone pipe to it at work same as bcs have done. The drone is unbearable at 3k!!

Why not just return it to standard? You know it makes sense; -)

Let us know what the difference in drone is between the two. I’m wanting the anti drone pipe too!

I tried it and returned it to standard after 1 week (wasn't an anti-drone pipe though). I think I'll only be happy with a resonated cat back system so I'm looking to get a milltek fitted soon, I like the looks of them and had resonated systems on several cars before.

Perhaps not but it seems the simplest solution to this problem rather than just trying things.
I would say so yes on that matter some people report major drone and others don’t I had the delete done at my local place and it doesn’t drone at all apart from when in dynamic it is next to no louder then standard

I thought the resonated aftermarket systems aren’t any louder then the standard Iv found from a number of friends with S3/ golf R with aftermarket cutbacks

They're a little louder but barely. They do sound a bit meatier generally though, I think that is what the S3 is missing at least from the inside.

Glad to hear these cars are not too loud.

Some of the cars (and bikes) I hear near my house deserve an ASBO!

They don't seem like it from the inside, but I have set off two different car alarms just by starting mine up since I got it in May last year. That's in about 3k miles of use, I didn't set any off with my old modified Focus ST in three years!

That's just ridiculous Jal!

I bet your neighbours love you :-o

As everyone else is said...

But reading this makes me want to take it out of comfort and into dynamic for my trip home tonight!

Ive had my Res Delete done about a week now and i personally like it..

I get zero drone when plodding along but get a nice extra tone when the hammers down..

As most people have sakd its all personal preference..

And as for chavvy.. people who say its chavvy want to have a look round the North East and see some of the clapped out bags of spanners people drive around with a peice of scaffold welded from the Cat straight through and a Happy Hardcore CD from 1999 on full chat..

Thats chavvy not a 20k plus S3 with a little peice of the exhaust cut out

I have mine done with a stage 1 re map and love it.
Also my neighbour has an Aston Martin which sets off a few car alarms and his car is in no way chavvy!
