Hello everyone,
I am a new menber who has just aquired this A4 1.8t Quattro Cabriolet. Lovely car and, judging by several picture's already on this site, known to the club. Unfortunately, the car is unusable due to Oil Pressure light coming on and car soounding like a bag of nails. I am wondering what my best option would be? Do I replace the engine, or have it repaired? What sort of cost would be involved either way? The car is far too good to scrap or break up for parts and I would like to get it back on the road. Any advice would be most appreciated and any information about the car also. Thanks in advance.

Remove the sump, clean the oil pick up, replace sump, new oil and larger oil filter and see how it is, really takes a lot of abuse to kill these engines.
Maybe take a big end cap off while you have the sump off and see how that looks.
Is the turbo still working okay?

As QuattroCallum says.
New oil pick up, Quantum or Castrol Edge oil & VAG filter & fingers crossed you'll have escaped a wrecked engine & Turbo.
Don't run the engine again untill you've done this.

I followed the advice given, had the car transported to a garage that did full oil change, filter's etc. Car runs perfectly now. Many thank's.
