I should really pack in messing around with my car for a while! Always get 90% of the job done and hit a snag!!

Anyway, moaning over.

I’ve just put in some seats from a GTTDI Mk4 Golf, plugs and wires are different colours, I expected the plugs to be different, but not the colours.

I don’t want to assume that they just join up into the same positioning that they’re in when you line the plugs up.

Would I be right in thinking that it goes like this?

Green > Black
White > Blue
Brown > Brown

That’s the passenger side, I’m guessing it’s a similar story for the driver side?

Plan is to spade connector or solder and heat shrink wrap them.

Looks like nobody can help haha, found an auto electrician that’s brave £50 for a crack at it!

I braved it!

I wired them up and nothing exploded!
However I am getting a 00588 “airbag igniter; driver side” n95
32-00 resistance too high

Is this a wiring issue or connection issue?
As far as I know the wiring is correct but I used bullet connectors. Passenger seems fine

If my memory serves me correctly the airbag igniter code relates to the seatbelt pre tensioner unit, someone correct me if I'm wrong. had same issue myself and was literally pulling my hair out (of what's left)trying to fix it, so I could get car through mot. In the end I disconnected the wires going to the unit and joined them together via a resistor, tricked the Ecu and no more annoying airbag light.

Dunno if you said but is you airbag light showing on dash?

Yeah the light is on mate

What a pain, you could replace the pre tensioner unit via a replacement from the scrappies or just do what I did and bypass it with a resistor.

Just realised actually I do have my steering wheel airbag unplugged ( part of another issue) could that be the error code?

Rosstech info

00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too Low
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Resistance too High
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Upper Limit Exceeded
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95): Lower Limit Exceeded
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N95): Short to positive
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N95): Short to ground

Possible Symptoms
  • Airbag Warning Light active
Possible Causes
  • Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty
  • Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138) faulty
  • Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95) faulty
Possible Solutions
  • Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)
  • Check Coil Spring with Slip Ring (F138)
  • Check Airbag Igniter Driver Side (N95)

Doesn't mention anything with regards to pre tensioner so could well be off the mark with that suggestion, if you only have one code and connection disconnected at steering wheel then could be the issue

My mates had a airbag light on and this sounds familiar about the igniter frivers side. I think it was something to do with the wires under the drivers seat might have got stretched if hed put the seat back to far. He's a tall over 6 foot person and likes his leg room and i think thats what cause his. He got the wire replaced and went to a garage to get the light turned of.
Hope that helps.

Would this code relate to me possibly mis-matching the wiring at all? The seats are from a MK4 golf so the colours weren’t the same so I found how to match them online.

Black-white
Blue-blue
Brown-brown

New steering wheel in, reset the code with VCDS.
I’ve started the car a couple of times and rescanned a bunch of times and it hasn’t come back on?

Good job. Are you pleased with? Any pictures.

Got one of the steering wheel, I’ll get some of the wiring later.

I believe it’s a pre-facelift S3 wheel!
