Always had an issue with the rear passenger light on my 2004 avant.
Intermittent bulb warnings.. turns out to be an iffy connection because the connector catch into the bulb holder is broken so it doesn't clip & hold in place.
Over the years I have just wrapped some tape around it & it's held fine until now.

Currently i'm getting intermittent 'Left rear light' warning & the whole cluster is going on & off which isn't good!.

Is it possible to replace the wiring with the connector on? as it goes into a rubber grommet & into the bodywork of the car, is that a big job? if so i'll get the tape back out again tomorrow & try some fresh!

Cheers

What parts broken, the bulb holder or the connector on the wiring loom?

Unfortunately it's the plastic connector on the wiring loom. The part that pushes onto the bulb holder.

The bulb holder is fine.

Get a replacement connector from the breaker with around 6 inch of wire, chop your old connector off and solder the new one into place. Use heat shrink to keep it water/ moisture free.
You can fit just the connector but I find this very fiddly to do.

Nice one cheers.
why did I not think of soldering & heat shrink!...

I take it if intending to fit just the connector you'd need to buy a new one? wondering how the wires crimp in?
Think i'll go down the route you suggest though.

Wouldn’t have to be new. I once tried fitting a connector for one of the coil packs but it was just too fiddly for me. A paper clip cut in half was all that was needed to release the wire from the connector. Unsure if the rear light connector would be the same though.
