Hi All,

just after a little help and advise,

I've noticed from about Monday last week that my Audi has started to make a loud whirring noise which sounds like its coming from the front of the car, seems to be loudest between 30-50mph. at first i thought it was just road noise but after more googling I don't think it is.. Possibly tires or a bearing as my partner curbed it a couple of weekends ago :(.

Tires are in good condition with plenty of tread. If it is the bearing or possibly anything else any idea on cost?

It's just getting more and more annoying, any help is appreciated :).

Thanks,
George

I'd put any money on it being a bearing. On my C7, one of the rears was replaced under warranty at 43K and one at my own cost at 57K.

The latter was done at a local indy for £170 using the same brand as Audi OEM without the 4-rings stamped on it (I can' remember which it was but I checked at the time). I did get a quote from Audi but it was around £500 - they charge £200 alone nearly for the hub/bearing assembly IIRC.

The easiest way I always found to check it is turn the steering wheel to the left and right. On one side it should get quieter, on the other noisier.

Thanks for the reply.

Damn that's not cheap :D. I've booked it to go into audi next Thursday hopefully they can diagnose the issue. £60 for a health check.. I've parked it up until then, noise it's slowly killing me!!

Well mine is now going in on Friday for yet another bearing to be done:gun2:

They really are made of chocolate it seems!

The Audi current brand is FAG...I've asked my indie to fit an SKF branded unit instead. Between my A4 and A6 this will be my 5th wheel bearing that's failed

Do you have a lot of pot holes, speed bumps in your area ? That's a lot of wheel bearings.
My B8 A4 had to have a front wheel bearing after I hit a pot hole a few weeks before it started droning. The OE wheel bearing on mine was an SNR item.
This was the noise car was making. Made no difference in the sound if you went left or right .
