My week old car has it :-(
Thought it was maybe pfl that had issue. Nit the new ones as well. You would think they would learn and get it sorted.
Not Like its a cheap car

74.000km in my RS3 8V and I've had 3 sets of OEM discs, 3 different references and all af them had the squeal and vibration problem.

last reference is the same as FL cars brakes have.

regards

So these new FL discs also warped and squels? That’s not good. You have an PFL car and there are more air ducts in FL front spoiler which gives more cooling to the inside of discs which PFL don’t have.

It’s in this thread !!
All the info you need to order Fordo...., whatever they are.

But how does that cool down inside of brake discs ? I think its better to get those ventilated backplates to get more air in to the discs and also open up in the front spoiler at least on PFL.

Sam was asking about Pads that don’t squeal.....?

Has he asked about overheating discs ......?

True, was another Bqik I mixed up with, sorry, my mistake ):. Now that its up. What do you think about cooling inside of discs, pretty bad overall on PFL?

Never had an issue with the discs on PFL RS I owned.....

Same with the FL I’ve recently bought....however If pads start squealing they’ll go in the bin and be replaced with Ferodo.

The breaks squealed while pulling out of the handover bay....... Took it for a spirited drive (in so far as conditions allowed) and it has gone for now.

Mine does it all the time. Drove into the city centre today and my girlfriends original response was don’t be ridiculous it’s a new car. She’s heard it, she now understands why I want new pads.

I’m having my discs off in the new year to be painted in a bodyshop as they are rusting, I may just bite the bullet and get some Redstuff then... I don’t think I can stomach the Ferodo if Redstuff are getting good reviews, surely they are an improvement over standard anyway?

I’m not having that ****..... very disappointing... already ordered some replacements might as well go bigger... lol

You can't paint the disks.........

Seems the disc veins aren’t directional in any way now.....

Mine was same.
Gave it a hard drive and didn't squeak once
Drove it today and squeak was back :-(
Almost embarrassing

I’ll let you all know how I get on with my new discs ..... once on and tested I should be able to get them at good price if anyone wanted to go down that route

You don't need to paint these!

You can.. paint the disc bells
I had corrosion build up on mine bought some wire wool attachments for my cordless drill and brought them back to life. Coated with G-Techniq c5 this worked for me. Just go lightly on the brushing stage

The fronts could be polished up, but sadly not so on the new style discs

Nothing needs painting if it’s treated correctly to begin with.

Very interesting, especially with the demo from T-800 above.

My detailer coated the bells with Gyeon Rim, within 2 weeks I have a fair bit of orange on the rears.

What are those? looking to upgrade mine too. Revo?

Yes they are the REVO/Alcon brake disc. Note: Do NOT fit EBC Redstuff Pads with this disc upgrade (I know they are in the background in the pic above, but I can tell you from experience that they are not compatible for repeated high speed stopping with this disc.)

Have said it all the time that cooling is terrible on these cars, take the wheel off and look around a little and you understand how difficult it is for the air to get as far as into the discs. It`s killing whatever disc or brand.

Considering how fancy they look, the OEM brakes are the biggest disappointment on the RS3. The squealing started after around 4K miles on my car but they were also suffering from brake fade after several hard stops during some 'enthusiastic' driving.
After reading all the threads on brake problems I decided that getting Audi to keep replacing them with the same parts is not the answer.

I went for the REVO Alcon brake disc upgrade.....

However, I made the mistake of fitting EBC Redstuff pads which were way too hard for the disc and the disc overheated very quickly (went blue and made the discs vibrate badly).
After a tip off from a well known Audi tuning company, I swapped out the Redstuff for Ferodo Premier pads which were a huge improvement and only cost around £130 for a full set. I ran them for around 2000 miles with no issues at all.
I was wondering how good the Ferodo DS Performance pads would be, so I swapped the Premiers out for the DS Performance versions. IMO there is not much difference between the two except perhaps the initial cold bite of the DS pads is not as good. The DS pads have been on the car for around 7000 miles now with no squealing or fading brakes. Dust is fairly minimal too.
Both the Ferodo pads also work really well with the OEM Audi disc and eliminate squealing, fading or grinding brakes. It makes the car soooooo much more enjoyable to drive.

I do Revo best option for cheap upgrade on my Mk 7 R was , Clubsport S discs, Ferodo DS2500, Motul RBF 660 oil, Goodridge brake lines. Brake was 70% better

When my RS3 arrives i will go Revo(Alcon) discs, brake lines , FERODO DS2500, Motul oil . I think it will be beast then becouse my Golf transformed and it had mono pistone brake kit

I find that you get the squeal when you are tooling about in D. After you have been 'on it' for a bit there is no noise at all. It cannot be a heat issue.

Heat problem according to squeels its probably not but heat problems warping discs really easy is a big yes. These brakes are the best and biggest I have ever had in stopping and the worst in all ways beeing warped really easy. I have never during my 55 years of age in all kinds of different cars and bikes warped a brakedisc before I had this RS3.

The car itself is amazing and after a bunch of warped discs I have now started to brake like a lady which is soft braking and very short which feels like it works, hard braking several times kills them at once so is a big nono, what a crap.

Seems sensible but mine were squealing when I collected it from the dealer - they can't come warped out of the box!

FL discs have thicker faces and narrower cooling gap then the wavy variety.

If you have squeal swap to Ferodo DS or a standard Ferodo premier pad, you'll be glad you did.

Brake squeal is the high frequency vibration of the pads in the caliper at lower speeds. If the pads have a low tolerance in manufacture, then they will rattle in their slots. I have measured Redstuff against the Audi pads and found this to be so.

Regarding brake disc warp - think about it. A honeycomb of webs (the cooling vanes) separating two faces is going to take a lot of heat, and I mean a lot, to actually warp a disc. Disc warp is a term applied when there is feedback through the brake pedal giving the feeling that a disc is warped. In actual fact, the symptom is a product of incompatible friction material on the particular disc, especially where hard braking has been used. The incomaptibilty between these materials produces high spots.

I suspect that the general consensus of the fix might be that Redstuuf or Ferodo have a higher tolerance in manufacture of the backing plates and their compounds are more symapthetic to the disc casting.

All this is well documented and it is beyond belief that those in Audi will not recognise this and fix it. It is so simple, that I reckon a small team of R&D chaps could hack it in a day or two. I really cannot say the boffins behind the RS3 are boneheads as the car is genearlly top drawer, so I have to say, they are just boneheads..!
