so on way home from work last night I was doing 30mph as rain was horrific , I hit a big puddle. It was round a blind bend and had no chance to swerve . I slowed down but the water had already done it’s damage .

The damage is my passenger side xenon headlight is not working at all.

Every other bulb in the passenger side headlight works indicator main led etc

Quickly had the bumper off today and had the headlight out and under the radiator in the house .

No obvious damage to harness or the headlight . There was water inside the headlight but has now dried up from the radiator . Soon as I put the light bk in the car the lense was full of condensation.

Is there a main fuse for the left xenon headlight or does the right and left run off one fuse.

Any ideas would be appreciated as the cost of the bulbs from Audi is disgusting!!!

Cheers

No idea about the fuse sorry, but an Audi dealer is the very last place that I would buy bulbs from though, lol.
My last Xenon bulbs (D2S) for the single Xenon headlights on my 2006 car were purchased from Amazon for about £60 the pair for 2 x Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs.
There’s so much fake stuff around (especially branded bulbs) that I didn’t want to risk buying anything off the likes of eBay......

I love the idea that you think if you buy from Amazon you will not get fake :) Most businesses that sell on Amazon sell on Ebay.

I made sure that my Amazon bulbs had the holographic sticker on them containing a security code that you can check on the Osram website to ensure they are kosher....
I wouldn’t have bought them from eBay because there are lots of fake Osram bulbs about.

That's a little problem, swap the bulbs around between headlights to prove if ones blown. The ballasts are on the outside of the headlight enclosures so maybe that has gone, again swap around to prove. If the bulb has blown, treat yourself to a new pair of Osram Nightbreakers, they're best you can get.

I wouldn't worry too much about temporary condensation inside the headlight glass. I've worked on headlights before now, in damp weather conditions (not actually raining) but with the plastic rear covers removed, and that was sufficient to cause condensation inside the light units which disappeared after a day or so. I would guess that simple thermal shock has blown the "bulb".

I posted where to buy decently-priced bulbs.
If that’s the way you reply to people trying to help then I’m not surprised you don’t post more often, lol.

I am trying to fix the problem without buying bulbs first though that’s why I said bk to the problem

Little update today . Got the car indoors and stripped it down properly.

So the drivers side light works perfect with the passenger side harness.

The drivers side bulb which I know is good does NOT! work in the passenger side headlight though

I’m thinking it’s not bulb related :crying:

£108 i paid for 2 bulbs at hiddirect.com. sorry cant help any other way haha

Yeah I’ve priced the Osram night breakers and have found a pair for £110 delivered from powerbulbs .

Currently got the passenger side head light in front of the fire trying to dry it out.

My car is still in doors stripped and won’t need it for a week so give everything the best chance to dry

I had a similar problem a few years ago on my 8P
I managed to get water into the headlight through the rear headlight seal that wasn't fitted correctly.
I traced the fault to the ballast that's fitted underneath the headlight and bought another one, however it dried out in a few days and started working again.
Hope you have the same result!

Thankyou for your reply really helpful . How did you trace the fault to the ballast ? Yeah that’s what I’m doing at the minute just giving it a good dry out in front of the fire . Is there much involved in removing the ballasts? Are they removable ?

Thanks again

I traced the fault by deduction but never got around to removing the ballast as it's a bumper of job from what I can remember.
I got the replacement ready for the weekend and it just came back on on the Friday night!
Was fine until I sold the car on a couple of years later

Ah cool. Well let’s hope I’m that lucky . I don’t need the car for a week so I have the light in front of the fire tonyt then I’m gonna leave t in the house for a few days and see if that dries it out and works again . Fingers crossed.

Did you buy the ballast from the main dealer ?

Take the ballast of the working side and try it?
