all i am going to be doing another oil change on the S4 and was wondering if anyone has tried running a heavier oil than 5w40 to reduce oil heat.
The oil temperature on my mmi at 70mph reguarly shows 105 degrees. I was thinking of going for 10w40 Millers CFS Nanodrive Fully Synthetic Competiton Motorsport Car Engine Oil.

5W40 - Suitable for small capacity high revving engines or larger engines used for short periods Eg sprints, hillclimbs. Also for fast road or trackday use in engines where a 5W30 oil is normally specified.

10W40 - Suitable for smaller capacity race and rally engines or turbocharged fast road / trackday use. Used as a performance alternative where a 5W40 is normally specified.

10W50 - Suitable for all modified or high performance normally aspirated and turbo charged engines from 2000cc upwards.

10W60 - Suitable for larger capacity race and rally engines both with and without turbochargers. Also for fast road or track day use where a 10W40 oil is normally specified.

15W60 - Suitable for large capacity engines (2000cc and above) where maximum protection is needed in extreme race conditions. Ideal for V8 or turbocharged engines and endurance racing.

For once I agree with Gaz on oil choices
I currently use the same as Gaz but was thinking to run something heavier. Do you not think it would be worth trying

Lol , he could use 504.00 .

But the Millers is crème de la crème .

A thicker viscosity means efficientcy loses from drag , less power , less mpg.

The 5W40 Millers contains the top group 5 basestock oil ester that is extremely viscosity stable at track day temperatures , no need for a 10W40 it's just extra thick at cold start up which is undesirable .

It has been said that the hotter oil temps in the S4 help to keep carbon build up to a minimum

The Millers will run all day at 125c though so well within spec for the oil

@xpoweruk what do your oil temperatures run at when doing 70?

abit off topic but how do guys see the oil temp. @Tashfeen enabled it and i can use the lap timer but for some reason the oil temp doesnt come up for. Any ideas?

It is really strange @yusuf7869 as both get activated at the same time. Maybe remove and activate again. Or perhaps try VCDS. I remember when I activated beep on lock via VCDS it didn’t work at that time but did after I reached home and locked the car.

It's an in-between thing , 105°C certainly isn't high as typically oil temps are 10° above coolant as 90° is ment to be the norm .

504.00 certainly wouldn't be compromised , 120° and the Millers is a no brainer .

Some expensive hardware there so why not with the Millers .

Tried it again this weekend and sadly to note it didnt work. Maybe my S4 doesnt have it?

By that do you mean that it shows "-- C"? If so it means its not hot enough. IIRC it only actually gives a reading above about 60C.

IIRC @Dippy, it displayed the lap timer but not the oil temp. And I am slightly surprised as I have activated it on my B8 SE and it works fine.

its just blank when the audio is switched off above the lap timer. once the music is on it shows the track name

What setting did you use to activate the lap timer?

I used VCDS - bit 3 of byte 1 for module 17.

This is what i get.

Im going to try my friends vcds hopefully next week.

@Dippy exactly what do i need to do as iv never used vcds before and friend uses his for a vw.
