Hi guys, so had my 8l now for 6 years, is in immaculate condition as I had full respray 2yrs ago.
Thought I'd better get agreed value this time around with Adrian Flux as if something does happen probably get next to nothing.
I thought I could go for £5000, it's Nogaro blue with matching interior and 96k on clock. Sent the requited 7 pics and they've only agreed to £4000.
I paid £5500 for it 6yrs ago (it was from a dealer) I know maybe slightly higher than private but seems the values of ours cars haven't really moved. Still don't get why they're not looked at as a modern classic yet.

4000 is not bad really compared to book value especially if you paid £5.5k 6 years ago With lower mileage. For £5k you would be able to get one with rebuilt engine and a hybrids turbo knocking out 300+bhp also. A insurance company ain’t going to over pay so £4K ain’t bad at all

I think the price for anything which isn't immaculate is only a 2 or 3 grand. Personally they are much nicer S4's for > £5k
S3s are little bit.. meh

A car is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. I am sure if you hold onto your S3 for another 10 years it will start gaining value.
Clicked on that Ebay link, and your right the guy is deluded. I know him personally :) .
He lives about 100 yards from me and most of the time is driving around in one of the Mustangs or VXR8 cars he stocks a lot off.
He pitches the price high when he gets them and then drops it till somebody bites. To be fair he does stock tidy niche cars and I suspect that S3 is probably a good specimen, but not 7K good.

Exactly, I would have thought a 7k S3 as well as being concours would have to have under 50k miles on it as well.
I am not saying I agree of the values of S3's, I think they are way too low for the quality and rarity of the cars. Just compare say a Focus RS mk1, quality no where near an S3, only front wheel drive and yet an A1 low mile example makes over 20k. Then there is the flimsy (but oh so exotic) Italian hatchback the Integrale and those prices are astronomical. Even the lowly Delta Hf Turbo (1.6 140bhp) is worth more than our S3's.

They made a lot less Lancias and they rust like nobodies business so if you have a good one that is indeed a rare thing.

S3's are positively common compared to a lot of cars. They don't do themselves any favors by looking quite similar to an A3.

I think they will be a future classic.

Ahh, not sure I quite agree with that. They made the Integrale from 87 - 94 and a total of over 44000 were produced. They weren't that bad as far as rust for that time period. If were talking about just the S3 8L then I'm sure the're not many on the roads.
Also the 8L is more different from the A3 than the later S3 were. A Ford Focus RS looks like a Focus as do all hot hatches as they are just a sportier version of the basic models.

Weren’t they an import only every one I see. Was lhd definitely weren’t 44,000 in the

Yes, only made in LHD and 44000 total produced. The reason the values have risen so much is of there rally history. Probably the most popular rally car ever. I personally think they are the best looking hot hatch ever and the S3 8l is a good 2nd place. A bit like a more modern Integrale really, better built but sadly not so exotic.

If u look on pistonheads.com there is a s3 8l for £13,995. Its only got 21k miles and 2 lady owners and is blue. Still for that money i think i would buy something different.

Pretty much every fast ford is subject to the 'Ford Tax' which means a car that was £5000 new and a bit ****, is now worth £30,000 and ultimately is still a bit ****.

You can't put a price on nostalgia.

Most Audi's (ur quattros excepted) are unfortunate enough to be so good at everything they are considered bland.

People dont get nostalgic they way they do over fast fords.

You'd have to be completely nuts to spend anymore than £5K for the very best 8L S3.

My Octavia Estate VRS family car is 99% better than my S3 in almost every aspect.

9 times out of 10 I will grab the keys to the Octavia before the S3.

Things have just moved on so much.

Your right there have you seen the price of a un modified renault 5 gt turbo £12k and the rs version is £70-£90k

I like driving the s3. It still brings a smile to my face when i give it some weely.

I remember when I use to drive my s3 loved it that’s,why I won’t get rid even though there’s better cars and it’s not moved in a year, it’s s car I wanted when I was 15 and will be sat there for another year before anything done with but that what nostalgia does.

Its crazy how "cheap" S3 8ls are in the UK. In Norway the prices vary from 7k to 13k normally. I payed 7,5k for mine with almoust 140k miles, but it was sold for 21k in 2011.

Norwegian page a guy selling his 2000 S3 8L with 83k miles for 10k now https://www.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=92860412 For that car and the market here I would say that is almost cheap. A S4 B5 that looks good goes for 16k ish and a RS4 B5 is around 30-40k or even more.

This RS4 mtm B5 goes for almost 50k https://www.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=107518445

If I were to buy another S3 I would definitely import from the UK.
