Hi All
I just found Audi Sport net. Looks good.
My first post and a couple of queries.

I have acquired an A6 Avant 2005 (c5 I think) 3.0 quattro. My first Audi and I am loving every minute of it.
Except those minutes that happen to fall during the hours of darkness.
Sweet Jeezus - frightening is the only way to describe it.
In town from the drivers seat you would swear you had no lights on.

On the way back home it just about manages to illuminate road signs, not that I need to be informed I should not exceed 30 mph – I am lucky if I am doing 30. At least on the open road I am assisted by the very helpful and considerate drivers behind me, who, obviously aware and understanding of my plight attempt to assist my progress by hanging off my rear bumper and providing me with as much extra illumination as is possible.

Being of advancing years, having health problems that preclude anything apart from random hammer bashing, and also not having put a spanner on a car for so many years that it came as a great surprise to discover that battery terminal clamps are no longer 1/4" Whitworth, I am getting my "man" to fit some new Osram Xenon bulbs (how much for a ****** bulb!!!") later this week.

My question, post ramble, is: which bulb would you recommend for achieving a “whiter” DLR?

Also would buffing up the lens make a noticeable benefit to light output or is it more a cosmetic improvement?

And how do I determine which version my car is - it seems to be right on the cusp?

Ps
For the more senior members (if there are any?), my 1/4 “ “King D**k” Whitworth o/e spanner inherited from my Grandfather, is a thing of pure joy. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore, sigh.

Beautiful in design, magnificently produced, an aesthetically tactile masterpiece.

3. Audi replacement bulb guide

This automotive replacement bulb guide is used for general information only, we are not responsible for any mistake that might be listed on this bulb guide. The actual bulb type/application for your vehicle might be varied. Please consult your vehicle owner's manual or your local car dealerships for the corrected bulb type.

Begin with the vehicle's model and year for the headlight and foglight bulbs. Once you find the bulb type you are looking for, just click on the hyper-link and it will bring you to a page with that particular bulb type, which you can choose from different wattages (standard or high output) and the color/temperature that you preferred. If your vehicle is equipped with OEM HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs, please look under the rows that indicated with "HID" within the guide. We also carry HID conversion kits.

Welcome to the forum.

A6 halogen headlights can leave a lot to be desired, most people opt to fit an HID kit, costs in the rgion of £50 for a half decent one.

I always buy mine from member T8ups

Then put the uprated halogen bulbs into your main beams, that will make a world of difference.

As to whether you have a C5 or a C6.... 2005 was the change over year, this is a C5....

This is a C6 (if you have a C6 you'll need to post in a different part of the forum.

Cutting back the lights is worthwhile, mine had gone very hazy and once it had been done the beam definition and dipped beam cut off was much sharper. It also makes the car look much more modern.

A quick Google search will reveal several DIY options, my local garage charged me £20 to do both and for that I let them crack on!

Thank you all - I will head over to the C6 section ;-)
ps
New xenon bulbs fitted but still not a patch on my previous car - Rover 75 with HID.
