S3 Resonator Delete

Had mine switched back to standard today, now back to a bit quiet but much more bearable. I may try fitting a bigger downpipe to get a deeper note. I had the standard exhaust on my Focus ST deresonated and it was great, no drone. Does anyone know the diameter of the standard S3 exhaust?

Hi, what did they use to clamp the pipe at the cut end where connects to exhaust, as it’s wider here than at the front where it’s clamped as standard? 2.75” at rear instead of 2.55” at front.

I'd get the end closest to the back box welded personally... less likely to get exhaust gases escaping. You could then also clamp it if you wanted.

Well that was an expensive mistake all in..... :rage:
Now back to standard with a nice tidy weld at the rear join and all cleaned up and back as it should be

Yeah, you live and learn. No save for a cat back? haha

In honesty, I have the BCS anti-drone pipe and now my valves are closed, it very nice.

Yeah mine had to be welded, although they cut a sleeve to put around it too but I don't think that's neccessary as the hangers hold it in position (I think they cut the deres pipe in the wrong place). All good now though.

Will just open flaps again and leave it at that.
Amount ive wasted, could have went towards getting my wheels coated! haha

I’m selling my AWE Tuning Switchpath Valve Controller, it’s in the classifieds.

For those of you who want the full sound of the car when you are on it without drive select opening and closing, then want a bit of peace on a run. It’s amazing how much it quietens the car down after the box delete when closed. The car is louder at low speed, louder low speed pops and crackles.

i'm going to replace mine next weekend with an handmade one (also with anti-drone). my valves are always opened. we'll see.

I’m going to R-Tec in St Albans on Saturday to have a custom built deres fitted with a remap booked in also!
I’m hoping the guys who have been there, done it and gone back again have more sensitive hearing than me!
Any way fingers crossed or like LiamRS stated expensive faux pas!

Anybody around Manchester that can tell me where to get this done and what they paid?
Looking for people who have had it done or who know someone personally to reply

here's mine fitted today!

Had my res delete, k&n with an Alienware re map carried out on Saturday morning.
WOW! What an amazing transformation!
The sound difference is from stock is exactly what I was hoping for, so much more throaty without sounding OTT.
When driving in Dynamic and D it has this low growl now but in S you get a lot more crackles and pops especially on the change down.
As for the re map R-Tec have excelled once again, such a big difference a for a very reasonable price!
Who needs to spend the extra £10k on an RS3? Well me eventually but this will do until then!

I got mine from Progressive Parts - It was a little more expensive than the others on here, but nothing too drastic. Think £169 rings a bell, but I then fitted it myself. The only difference is, mine is clamped and not welded. Seems to be doing fine at the moment! I know this is the Res delete thread, but any chance anyone has gone and done (or knows anyone who has done) a muffler delete by opening up the backbox and straight piping it inside?

So went for this too - different supplier than others, I used www.trackslag.com - Seems really decent build quality and happy for the moment.

Auto... I'm sure it's because the valves are open permanently. I'll report back after the 17th when @DJAlix is closing them for me.

Did you end up closing the valve? And if you did, did it eliminate drone a lot? Compared to open valave?

It makes a difference. Its alot less boomy in the cabin, but I'm still not 100% sure. Some days I love it, others I hate it...

I know how you feel! I love it till the minute i’m on the motorway then i hate it.. Back off the motorway i love it again. Cant decide if I wanna take mine off or not..

What did you pay for this?
How come you didn't get an anti-drone one?

I think they are doing it for £100ish, I got a test one fitted to see what it was like. I'm not detecting any drone unless I have a half decent amount of throttle at around 3k - say going up a steep motorway hill, something like that.

I think this change is very much upto the individual, it is louder than I expected.

I've done about 500 miles now with the resonator delete done (straight pipe) with the exhaust valves permanently open on PFL. No difference in any driving modes.

General driving around town with gentle throttle there's not much difference, it's a bit deeper maybe, however full throttle, 3k rpm upwards, and DSG farts it's much much louder. Unfortunately on the motorway at medium acceleration from 2.5k - 3.5k rpm there is a pretty horrible drone.

Getting my exhaust valves shut again soon so hopefully that'll lessen the drone somewhat but still allow full noise at full throttle and in dynamic mode.

Hi Mate,

Did you end up getting your valves closed...any better? I have a res delete with valves open too and am keen to see what others think before closing them.

Yeah it's much better with them closed. Still lots of drone at motorway speeds but but as bad.

It’s a shame as it makes the car sound so much better on the outside, but does get noisy behind the wheel

Got the BCS Anti-Drone Res Delete on mine, great bit of kit, and yes no drone, but it does get noisy in the cabin, mainly on the motorways, when hitting the accelerator hard from 5th/6th to 7th (50/60mph to 80mph)! My S3 is a DSG. Once in 7th gear, all is quiet and zero drone!

I understand why some find it annoying, perhaps OTT, with the BCS res delete in the driving style/situation I mentioned. I do a lot of dual carriageway/motorway miles so I get to see the best (and worse) of the res deletes. The best way to overcome it, for me, is to manage the gear changes and accept how it operates. Still, that's my only criticism on the BSC – loving the pops and bangs, and overall exhaust dynamics!

Anyone tried turning off or decreasing the soundaktor noise? Would it make a difference? Thinking of taking it to my local VAG Indy to turn it off or set the soundacktor down to 10%! Never turned the thing off in my previous Golf R, in fact, didn't find it that obtrusive.

I have a red delete (not a BCS), and am on the fence with what to do. I have the valves open so may get them closed and see if that helps.

I also have my soundaktor off. It wasn’t until @DJAlix demonstrated the difference in sound while holding revs that I decided to go without. It’s a weird mid range montone for want of a better description. Pure engine noise without it on sounds much better imo.

I turned mine down to low single digits while quickly stopping off mid drive. (used carista), didn't notice any difference really. Not sure if it was because using low revs so not much noise anyway, even with valves open. Will need to experiment more once got my res delete on Wednesday :)

I see a lot of people in this discussion having their cars deresonated then saying either it's too loud or drones. Why have it done in the first place? Or am I missing something? I'm assuming prior to getting it done people did a bit of research or not as it would appear. Don't take me the wrong way. Each to their own. As soon as I get the funds it cat back non resonated milltek for me. I like loud.

Because people are tight and don't want to pay for a performance exhaust system or a cat-back.
They go this cheap route and it sounds poo when compared to a proper exhaust.

People will disagree with me but the proof is in the puddin' mate. Look how many are for sale and how many above have said "Not sure if I like it or not"

I don’t think it is because people are tight. But it seems a bargain to get more noise like that for £120 rather than spending £1000. The thing is not everyone wants a full blown exhaust system but for £120 anyone would get it done lol. The S3 lacks drama so a little more exhaust noise will make most happier.

Well yeah exactly, as with anything you can do full out or decide not to. Would I spend £1k on an exhaust for a car I might be getting rid of in 2/3 years? No. If I planned to keep it long-term... sure.

Would I spend a few hundred quid to get more noise and be able to go back to stock, yes. Hoping by tomorrow evening after my 200 mile drive back home with the res delete I'm not regretting it though :) but as I wouldn't spend £1k, yup! It's something at least...

Ideally I'd have an RS3, but ya know... :) being a cheap *** haha..

Had mine on for probably 2 months and 3k ish miles. Very happy with it. It is a tad noisy at motorway speeds but I do that very rarely and this is the quietest car i've owned!

I don’t think that lacking £1k and upwards for a full system makes people tight. What a rediculous comment.

Is the reason you have an S3 instead of an RS3 because you’re cheap, or you couldn’t afford it? Or maybe even because you made a conscious decision not to buy one?

I’d think a little harder before p***ing on people’s parade.

So little update from me, got the BCS res delete fitted a few days ago. Sounds good :D had a motorway journey back and at 3K~ RPM the noise is a bit intrusive, might just take a little bit of getting used to. Can only imagine what it's like without the anti drone part.

But my flaps are open, so wonder what it is like with them shut ... ideally will use a phone app Carista (don't think its supported) or OBDeleven to be able to shut them when I'm doing motorway journeys.

Think that might work out best for me. Need to figure this out still as I know OBDeleven you need like credits to make app changes or something, and they cost money - but you can get some for free too.
