I'm already thinking of my next car, but who isn't secretly? I am hoping to get a little extra space in the back for the offspring. I had a look at the saloon dimensions against the sportback dimensions and it doesn't explicitly give this data but it looks from the diagrams and the wheelbase that they are identical. Can anyone confirm?

Also, it seems that the A5 coupe has a similar amount of space meaning that if I want more space it seems like back to an A4 or A5 sportback.

I think the wheel base is the same mate, just the **** is different.

I have no doubt that headroom is better in the sportback.

can't say that any of the rear seat passengers I carry, and its not that many, have commented that space is less in the Saloon compared to the SB

My mate has a saloon and his wife has a sportback. He said that the SB has more space in the back, based on 2 kids under 4 in car seats. Saloon is better for boot space though.

But l think l heard the Sportback has more room in the back not much though, A5/S5 Sportback would be ideal for ya a upgrade too

Legroom is the same but headroom is slightly less in the saloon, but then the 6 footers I used to transport in mine never complained..

I can speak from experience having owned the SB and saloon AND have 2 kids(mine)..from being tots to toddlers.

There appeared to be slightly more room in the rear of SB ...but the roof line makes up most of the difference in space. I transfer huge rear facing car seats most weekends and they aren't quite as easy to squeeze through the rear of the saloon . Although, I use one forward facing seat during the week with no problemo

Whilst the hatch's boot was a little bit easier for loading, the saloon's extra capacity (45l) is much more useful.

I prefer my current saloon over the SB...the slight difference in space is negligible whilst extra boot capacity and better looks (IMO) make it a winner.

My next car will probably be another saloon.....probably ...although I have had the ridiculous notion of a TT ...yeah they'll be 5 and 7 by then...roof box for holidays....knees around the steering wheel...it could work!pah

Thanks for the info guys. @jassyo06 Do you know if the A5 coupe has any more leg room? My issue is that I'm over 6ft and I have kids in the back, and one is 11 years old and is needing more room in the back. He seems to have my tall genes too ;-)

If you have kids then forget about the coupe, we had one for 2 weeks as a loan car from Audi UK, my wife and I got so ****** off in the end that we requested a 5 door, so they swapped it out yesterday with a A5 sportback which is a far nicer car all-round. I was even struggling to get a 40cm2 box in the boot of the coupe. It has to be one of the most useless cars in the world if you have kids, I was glad to see the back of it.

The Sportback S5 is your ideal Audi mate or the new A6 that's just around the corner.... It should be a looker

What was even worse than the car was the federal family killer tyres fitted, some hankook ventus things....

Audi are fitting a lot of hankook tyres to there cars, seen them on a ttrs roadster with standard 19"s

Problem is they don't (at least currently) do an RS5 sportback :( So my options are keep the same leg space in the form of an RS3 or opt for an RS4 Avant and I don't like the Avant. Of course I'd love an RS7 but can't afford that!

My personal view is that the A4 is better value for money and a better car than the A3 saloon, but then I am extremely biased..

Well after doing the sum's as I needed to get rid of my old C6 as Mrs B5 wanted something newer, I was looking at the A3 & A4 for my wife, and bang for buck the A3 was in my opinion better value for money than A4. It would have cost me over £6,000 more to buy the same specification A4 and that spec would have put me in the £450 extra tax per year, as the A4 would have been over 40K (with options), and the A4 also has the outgoing 1.4 TFSI engine where the A3 has the new 1.5 TFSI engine

It's all down to personal requirements in the end but for Mrs B5 and my wallet the A3 was a far better value for money car.

I still think one of the best value for money Audi's at the moment is the A6 with the £6,150 deposit contribution, it's £3,000 more than the A4, that was one of the reason's I got the C7, and that Mrs B5 does not like the size of it so never drives it. (What a shame:wink:)

The 'new' 1.5 engine is the same as the 'old' 1.4 and in some reviews I have read they changed the mapping and made it less good. What specs were you looking at?

What on earth is "better value for money" supposed to mean? It's a larger car which costs more money - if you need the space then it's a no-brainer but, if you don't, then you're just wasting money.

Plus the A3 looks better :p

I actually think the S3/RS3 saloon is the best looking car Audi make.

Thee main problem the A4 has is....its got the Fleet car Stigma writin all over it sadly, the only model l would choose is the S4.....it doesnt have the fleet car look about it and is a very handsome car indeed....as for the best looking car Audi manufacture....that in my opinion is thee New RS5

Agreed on the fleet car image of the A4 but not the RS5. Hate the front of the new A5 with a passion, RS5 included.

Quite correct, the saloon version of the A3 is prettier in its proportions, and I owned one, however when I purchased my A4 a year ago it cost me the same as the equivalent A3 because of discounts, the apr was lower so more car for the money, more tech and more space.

Well if you got a good discount then it may have been better value for money in this particular instance but you can't extrapolate generally from that.

Besides, I think the fact the A3 looks better than the A4 and as I don't need the extra space, the A3 would have been better value for money for me even if I'd been offered an A4 for the same price ;)

We'll that's why buying a car is about personal choice and I would not disagree with anyone with this, however I feel it is fair enough to give an alternative too. I also never have purchased the same car twice, the a4 appealed to me in more than just space though. Compared to the a3 it is a far better place to sit in, even though it isn't the best looker but then the boot is exactly the right size for us and the tech also appealed to me...

I’ve got a 66 plate A4 Saloon and have just ordered an S3 Saloon . I’ve liked the A4 but it’s not blown me away, yes it was a step up from my A3 Sportback in refinement and tech, but just prefer the look of the S3 and of course the power
I will miss the virtual cockpit and the other bits and pieces I will not have on the S3 but can’t wait.
My main disappointment with the A4 is it’s build quality, it’s developed so many rattles and knocks over my previous Audi’s it’s really detracting from my enjoyment and is what got me to start looking at the S3.

A discounted A4 my be the same price as the A3, however when you apply the discounts available on the A3, you could never get to the same price as a discounted A3.

I’ve always personally found the smaller Audi’s drive a lot better. Some of the courtesy A4’s I’ve driven have been shocking.
