Hi I could do with some advice regarding my clutch. Car is on 140k miles, just had stage 1 remap done and felt some clutch slip in 5th and 6th when accelerating hard.

What I could do with finding out is will a new oem clutch and flywheel be ok with stage 1 remap or will I need an updated kit.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

That what is holding me to remap mine ! Problems

I' not too sure in terms of torque. But the place that remaped it said about 210bhp. If I'm going to fit an uprated clutch any suggestions as to what to go for?

Would a standard luk clutch kit and flywheel do the job? And hopefully not slip any more. I don' plan on taking it further than the remap

Think I'm going to go with the luk flywheel and clutch kit been quoted 400 all in from euro car parts including slave cylinder. Is this a reasonable price ?

Check full specs of how much they can handle shop around for prices but that looks about right

Would have been good to know just how much torque the engine is putting out and more so how it is delivered. Some remaps will result in a big spike of torque which will give the car the feeling of picking up quickly, although this quickly starts to reduce these torque spikes will make the clutch slip.
At 140K miles the clutch wasn't going to last that much longer. A standard clutch should be good enough for a stage 1 map that doesn't have a torque spike.

Yeh it would be good to have those figures. It seems to pull a lot better anyway. I Just hope replacing the flywheel with a luk flywheel and clutch kit will be ok and no future clutch slip. Although the slipping hasn't been bad today.

I was in a similar position with my previous 8P. Went with LUK clutch and flywheel and it started slipping again after a while. Map was incredibly linear (peak torque at 3250-3750rpm) but torque was rated at 320 ft lb. Had to revert back to stock and then sold the car.

I would advise getting upgraded clutch.

As above a new clutch will be OK for the short term , long term full beans , uprated organic .

It might be so the 140 and 170 are the same clutch ?? So a mapped 140 will be good with a good condition existing clutch whereas a mapped 170 will be at a new clutches limits .

Do it once , do it right .

Yes, I believe they use the same clutch as when I was buying mine noone asked me if it's 140 or 170.

I don't know about the clutch, what I do know is; it has different turbo, injectors, fuel delivery even different brakes.

You hear of so many clutches fail due to poor remaps.

My car was remapped at 40,000 miles with REVO, not had any clutch problems with my CR 2.0 170bhp. (CBBB engine)

John.

I wonder if Darkside get any clutch issues with their 170 CR map....

So will then 140bhp be safer to remap than 170? As it will bring 140bhp to around 170-80 where as 170bhp engine will be over 200bhp? Im I right will I be safe if I remap my 140bhp version ?

Pay for a decent remap, not some cheap and cheerful, cant see a problem getting any car remapped.

My 170bhp was remapped at 40,000 miles with REVO, now has 239,000 miles on the clock, no problems and still original clutch.

Just do your research , find out the author and find a real dyno print out to see how smooth/ linear it is.

You don't have to pay silly bucks .

£199 for my linear torque map , I could not imagine how it could be improved , as good as it gets .

Yeah thinking going amd or local to me JFAUTOMOTIVE both high rated remapping companies would u suggest panel itf filter ? Or they damage maf sensors heard it somewhere

Don't get oily filter, MAF might suffer. As for remapping, 140bhp is perfectly safe to remap at a reputable place as many members here (including myself on previous 8P) have done it.

Do bear in mind that no matter what anyone tells you, engine components DO WEAR more quickly when car is remapped, no matter how smooth and good map is - it's physics.

Which filter wld u suggest ?? What will wear out quicker ?

hi all , i have just had mine done its 140 and it is now, 188bhp and 424nm, it feels great revs a lot better

Anything that isn't oily will work. Even factory filters are enough for decent power gains.

Everything will wear out quicker. Clutch, DMF and turbo are first on the list.

Do you have clutch slip? As stock clutch can take up to 405Nm and it will start slipping soon. I've had mine remapped to 435Nm, took about 6 months to destroy the clutch. :D

Oh **** makes me worried now ! That I shld not remap mine

Have some mechanical sympathy and clutch will last well. My current 170 was mapped 2 years ago. 30k done and clutch is fine. My previous cars all had remaps once did 106k from new on a remap and clutch was fine.

If you do hundreds of standing launches from lights it will knack very quickly.

yer mine was £295 and yer a got a dyno print out , its like anything if you cane it it will break , like jps said just be careful but its nice to know the power is there when you need it

are the parts likely to fail due to driving hard everywhere or down to the remapping itself?
Everything wears depending on how it's used and abused. Think of tyres as an easy example to physically see. Drive sensible and will last well. Grand prix starts, tearing around corners etc will wear much quicker.

I've always mapped cars. Subaru Sti. Bought at 17k miles mapped etc and sold at 109k with no issues. Bought a new Ibiza cupra tdi mapped at 6k sold at 106k also no issues.

Mapped my A3 170 at 26k. Now 51k. Had issues with haldex and new propshaft but not related to map. Also had engine rebuild but that was due to a mechanic not fitting cambelt tensioner properly. I'll be happy if my clutch gets me to 100k. I don't fly around and 90% of the time cruise for economy.

I had my CR170 quattro mapped yesterday with a dyno run and got a print out.
Here it is so shall see how it goes. Looks like a good map just a little concerned that the torque might be a little high but the mapper has a good reputation so hopefully will be ok.
