After spending at least an hour looking at S4 wheels I'm now thinking of changing my lease spec.. I originally thought the standard wheels would be OK but just about every S4 in the dealer network seems to have upgraded to one of the two cost options. As a lease customer I don't want to go options crazy and thus far I've only added the Light & Vision Pack (S4 Avant, standard Brilliant Black).

I'm tempted to just go for the Virtual Cockpit on it's own rather than as part of the pack and spend the 500 quid I'll save on upgrading the alloys instead.. Any opinions would be most welcome! Will I regret not having the Matrix headlights from the pack (presumably the standard lights are LED's front and rear anyway?)? Are the standard alloys that bad?

Standard Alloys followed by the 550 GBP Option (which look quite two tone in the pic below but seem to be a flat grey in the metal?)

Get the RS (bottom) wheels. Little more aggressive. Got them on mine. Not two time no. Kind of matte/gun metal.

Thanks.. did you upgrade the lights on your car? What are the standard ones like.. LED front and rear?

Yeah I got the Light and Vision pack which was a launch option. Very good value. Not sure it's available on this model year. VC, Extended interior lighting and Matrix lights. The led headlights are superb but the matrix are very useful indeed. Seeing them bend around cars in front of you and lighting the road ahead is pretty cool but mainly useful.

I'm with Thundercliffe81 here - got the RS wheels and the L&V pack on mine and both worth the money imo.

Thanks chaps. Tricky question I know but if you could choose between the L&V pack & standard wheels versus Standard Lights and Upgraded Alloys and the Virtual Cockpit (and maybe the interior lights as well which only add another 100GBP) which would you go for?

I'd go for the upgraded wheels and VC and keep the standard lights - as much because I don't like the standard wheels that much, and the VC is simply awesome! Not sure on the interior lights either - I have them but I've set them once and never changed them!! Might be worth the storage pack instead - I think it's £150 and seems useful, although I didn't go for it. All personal of course and no wrong answer!!

Until today I’d have agreed but mine is in for warranty again and have an A5 with the standard s-Line headlights and really missed the matrix lights on the way home, the subtle way they light up side roads and crossings etc you don’t realise.
I don’t really understand the theory about choosing between the wheels or the lights as you say it’s a lease car, blew the budget on mine and haven’t regretted any ticked box for a second.

The L&V pack is essential. The wheels...you'd want the RS ones but the L&V pack is more of a must.

I'd go for standard wheels and the L&V pack......partly because for some strange reason, I just don't like those RS wheels at all. Depending on how much night driving you do, standard wheels and just the VC could be an option and then save a few quid?

I'm with you on that one.

I don't personally dislike them, but on something like the S4 I'd always prefer to have something special that you can't get on other models which is why I went for the S4 specific versions with the diamond cut faces. :)

I'm with you on that one.
For some stupid reason, they remind of the old XR3 "egg poacher" alloys from a long time ago.......and I really didn't like them. That said, I had a Mk1 Astra GTE at the time and the wheels on that were nothing special.

Still, if we all had the same taste, the cars would look the same and that would be pretty boring.

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated! I'm still torn but I will also see what the lease company come back with on how it might change cost/leadtime. I think I've more or less convinced myself to upgrade the wheels. The standard alloys remind me of a top of the line Mondeo for some reason and the 550 GBP upgraded ones, whilst not the most attractive design, do look a bit more purposeful and slightly more "dished" if that makes sense?

I preferred the S4 only wheels as the RS alloys are on so many cars and wanted something different.

They do look rather smart! Interestingly I'm sure the S4 Avant I saw in Audi Slough's showroom the other day had the standard new RS4 wheels on (as below). They looked great but are a slightly different offset I believe.

I was the exact same. Although mine didn't come wrapped in the nice Continental rubber, I got the Hankooks instead! :rage:

Just hope they last better then the last set of continentals i had on my B8 A4. got 8k out of a set and that was a FWD Diesel.

Really?! I hope so too!

yep, got the tracking check after the first set of front tyres.. all i could put it down to was the tyres being very soft they were , and all the bad roads in the area. i not a hard driver. when i replaced the tyres with goodyear eagles lasted twice as long...

I got about the same out of conti's with a diesel mk4 mondeo, and they tramlined to the point of almost being dangerous..

Mine were bad for tramlining on my B8.5 quattro as well, and that was from new!

only done 200miles on the s4 but so far they seem good. No tram lining and plenty of grip and not too much noise. Will have to see how they wear.

Yeah, I think the suspension changes have helped the tramlining hugely!

Just wondered why the RS style wheels that I have on my S4 have Audisport printed on them but the more expensive S4 wheels don't? Are the RS wheels lighter being Audi-sport or is it just a standard branding on those wheels across the range?

I liked both styles but didn't like the exclusive S4 wheels £800 more than the RS wheels!

Re the OP's question, I'd recommend the VC but as good as the matrix lights are I'd be ok with the standard LED's, saying that the wheels on a car can make or break the look of the whole package so I'd push for VC and wheel upgrade.

Hey don't knock the good old XR3, an 80's icon! : )

I managed an XR2 but never got my hands on an XR3.

Them were the days...the birth of the hot hatch era!!!

I have the light and vision pack and the RS wheels. I'd forgo the wheels to keep the matrix lights every time! The are amazing now the evenings are dark.

Matrix lights are awesome, I love the way they Dance on start up then give a nightrider type swoosh as they self test.
RS wheels are a pain to clean, they are a Matt finish and not easy to seal.
Mine has Pirelli’s down to the bone (3mm ish) after 7k and tramline like crazy, winters going on soon so will re shod the others come spring.

In the first post, I have the 1st pic wheels but really wanted the 2nd pic. What are these wheels officially called? Might look at getting some when I need tyres, still got 4mm on the original Hankooks at 23k miles :)

Commonly known as the RS wheels or V spoke.

I didn't even know they did this. I'm always inside the car :)

That's where you see it from... If you look at the light pattern against a wall, as the self leveling check completes you'll be able to see all the matrix lights checking themselves just above the low beam cut off. They're much dimmer than usual, but there and looks cool when you catch it. :)

I prefer the standard alloys. Sorry world. :relaxed:
They're all nice alloys really, all down to personal choice.

The RS ones are a sod to clean as the brake dust gets into the little corners of the V and as it's not a smooth finish needs a good bit of work to remove and that's after I had them ceramic coated!

Still love them though and my preferred choice.

Finally locked down my S4 Avant spec. Brilliant Black with black leather, RS Alloys, Virtual Cockpit and Extended LED Interior Lighting. Sad to do without the Matrix lights (and I know the L&V pack is better value) but I had to draw the line somewhere with it being a lease. Can't wait for March now :)
