High Mileage Club

my 2003 passat 1.9 diesel had 173 k miles when i bought it 5 years ago, now has 366k, engine wise has only had a new intercooler, radiator and injector wiring loom apart from timing belts every 65000, still goes like sand off a shovel, will a 1.6 tdi give any better mpg? i,m getting 45 tank to tank in mainly motorway driving.

My 2011 A4 B8 2.0TDi has 147K on the clock and still going strong.

No mechanical issues whatsoever (touch wood). Only general ware and tare.

Was always worried about high mileage vehicles when I was younger but as long as you maintain the vehicle properly and regularly service, etc, no reason it can't just go on and on and on.

The thing to do is get on autotrader and see what kind of mileage same spec cars are reaching.
My perception was a 2.0 petrol turbo is not going to last 150k miles, however when I bought mine there were a loads of TFSI's with more miles than that on them. It is especially so for normal cars. When I owned an Lancer Evolution, I spent tons of money keeping it running, so the engine life was artificially raised. Very few people are spending 20k keeping an A4 on the road, but might be prepared to do so for an RS4 for example.

I rarely look at how many miles a car has done, but how many it's got left in it.

My be Jetta has 184000 on it and still going strong , plenty of oil changes , my a3 2:0 tdi s line 2008 has 140000 with no noises or rattles

Friend's 2003 A3 8L 1.9 TDI 74kW is at 230 000 miles.

My previous 2004 A3 8P 2.0 TDI 103kW was at 205 000 miles when I sold it and I can still see it rolling around the town.
