Anyone feel a bit "meh" with their S5 or is it just me?

Having had 2 b9 s5’s (coupe and sport-back) I can say apart from the technical issues I had with car number 1 both have been fantastic cars as a motor way cruiser.


The only thing I can say annoys me but seems to go away with more miles is the gearbox in comfort mode seems to forget what it is for a few seconds when you press the accelerator but after 1000+ miles it seems to go away.

From a driving point of view the sports differential and the adaptive suspension do improve the overall handling of the car over the standard one (even standard is very good) even with the rear biased Quattro system it won’t be as chuck able as a full rwd car but In day to day driving it’s not noticeable. Being 300+ kg at-least more than a s3 8v and being a larger car will make it feel more lumbering than a smaller car but having come from a Volvo v60 polestar I haven’t felt it any more or less fun.

Having driving the new rs5 as-well I would say that is the one to have if you want more fun with added discomfort with the s5 more aimed as a gt but with the hp when you need it.

If I was given the choice between the rs5 and the s5 I would still take the s5 as it’s fast and fun enough yet understated compared to its rs5 cousin.

Not got the S5 but did have the S3, I was talking to a mate last night and he asked how they compare? I said it's like trying to compare apples and bananas, for me I knew the A5 would be more of a relaxed/cruiser type car, the S3 was bonkers and a hot hatch. I had the S3 manual, as I wanted to throw it around and have fun, I got the A5 in s-tronic as I wanted to still have sporty looks but have more of a relaxed, comfy, take my time drive.

Will I have another S3, hell yeah when the new one is out But I do think I'd go s-tronic!!!

Well, i LOVE mine (apart from a few niggles that annoy me) but Im only comparing it to Volvo T5s and BM 33oi's, so I guess
it depends on what you've drove in the past!

I cant think of any other car at the moment that does everything my S5 Sportback does and does it better.

I still remember test driving a 340PS TTRS a few years back. Although my S5 now has a lot more power than that and feels like an agile car given its size (and I expect the B9 should be even more so - I haven't driven one), I remember the TTRS being on another level agility wise. On that basis I can imagine that going from an S3 to an S5 would result in a sense of loss of "thrill" and "fun". This is pure guess, but I imagine if I drove an RS6 I would be in awe of the power, but could not get away from the "barge-like" feeling in comparison to an S5.

I reckon it’s because you have come from an S3. I moved from a Bmw 140i to a 340i before the S5 and it was a similar scenario due predominantly to the difference in weight and size. For the money a clio cup or similar would defo give you a great back up option for the back road blast! Had a Clio 200 - superb chassis!

I had my S3 8V for 3 years before getting the S5 Sportback.

They are two completely different cars.

Yes the S3 is more nimble and a lot more point/squirt.
The S5 is more grown up, refined.

I found they were both great cars in their respective area.

I've also come from a S3 to the S5, the S3 was a pocket rocket in comparison but as was said earlier "it's like trying to compare apples and bananas"

I miss the more aggressive urgent nature of the S3 but i like the more relaxed powerful style of the S5.

S3 = Jack Russell terrier...small nimble and fast with a big attitude
A5= Dogue De Bordeaux...big, muscular, laid back, but you know it has the power if needed!
