Was doing a long drive yesterday and all of a sudden i got a warning saying my adaptive cruise control was unavailable, my audi pre sence was restricted and my distance warning is unavailable. Anyone else ever had this?

Weather was really bad with rain amd flooding while driving could it be possible its blown a fuse?

If the sensor becomes blocked or its view restricted it will not function. There will be an informaiton related DTC in ACC controller.

It isnt blocked i have checked it. I wasnt using the acc when it came up either. Was the other 2 faults that came up first so i tried the acc to see if it would work

I had this, ended up being a faulty camera and was replaced under warranty.

Did you mean radar sensor as the ACC uses a front radar sensor not a camera?

No, the camera. It's all linked into the pre-safe etc, so if one goe's down... they all do.

Stone chip to the sensor unit, dirt on the sensor, any movement on the sensor will all trigger this. The sensor may need replacing or indeed just recalibrating. The system is a real pain in the bum technically which is why VW redesigned the solution and hid the sensor behind the VW badge on all new cars.

Just to give an example how much of a pain the system is, there is only one dealership (VAG brand combined) in the whole of North London equipped with the kit needed to perform the calibration and they ask £900 for the process lol

Oh, that sounds expensive for when the car is out of warranty! But where is the camera located which Mark_86 is talking about? I have a camera on the windscreen of my PFL but I thought that was just for the Lane Assistance? Does the FL have something extra?

Not to sound snotty....Cars today with all these radar, camera and proximity sensors are prone to error codes and shut down of the their safety systems and are complex and pricey to fix. That is one reason I did not purchase these nanny devices and to be very frank, I am very leery of putting my car into the control of systems like ACC . There would always be that wee voice in the back of my head saying are these systems functioning as they are designed to perform or?

I hear what you say but of all the options on my car ACC is IMO the best and most worthwhile one. It is just so much better than ordinary cruise control - it really is in another league of control and safety. But I completely understand others like you who don't trust it. My wife didn't at first but one day she used it and is now a great supporter.

It uses both (and yes, it's the lane assist camera that is being referred to). In the PFL at least, the radar alone gave you basic ACC, but the addition of the camera enhanced the system. I'm not sure in what way, because I've not tried both types, but I've noticed that the one I had (with camera) was remarkably good at detecting which lane cars were in around corners etc.

I've had this error very occasionally, usually after I lose a bit of grip on the road and the system disables itself, but I'm able to turn it on again straight afterwards. I've not had it otherwise.

I have ACC with no lane assist - are you saying I also have a camera then? I have only ever noticed the radar sensor (the black rectangular plastic thing in the grille)

I don’t believe that there were 2 ACC systems on the PFL. The lane assist camera did not work with the radar, as far as Pre-Sense Front was concerned. Maybe it did with the extra option of Pre-Sense Basic.
This is what the brochure said about PFL and ACC.

Adaptive cruise control. Automatic distance control (control range for manual transmission between 20-100mph* and for S tronic 0-100mph).* Also includes Stop/Go function only with S tronic. Working within system limits it uses a radar sensor to detect vehicles ahead and maintain this distance by automatically braking and accelerating. 4 distance levels and different driving modes can be selected individually. Also includes Audi Pre-sense front which warns the driver through an enhanced brake assist of any imminent threat of collision with the vehicle in front. Braking action is initiated at speeds below 19mph if there is a danger of collision with a stationary or moving vehicle, to avoid or reduce impact. Only in combination with Colour Driver's Information System (9S6) on SE models

You may occasionally get that message - it is caused when the sensor is blocked. Or if it thinks it’s blocked.

If it clears and doesn’t happen again any time soon then I would put it down to some external factor temporarily causing an error.

Consider that the sensor is very close to the road so there may be things which pop up which cause errors that we may not even see - including dodgy weather.

And then there are 2 different sensors - mine is domed and others are flat. The domed was the Bosch Long Range Radar Sensor LRR3 (with 250m Range and field of view 30-45 degrees) and the flat was the Bosch Mid Range Radar Sensor MRR (160m Range and 45 degrees fov). Quite what are the true benefits of each type I have no idea and I’m not sure which they are currently fitting. For those of you with ACC on FL is yours domed or flat?

Definitely remember reading about it enhancing the ACC capability, because it also increases the speed range that ACC can work over too when you had the lane assist. There's only 1 type of system in the FL car though I think - not seen any mention of enhancement for that.

Well...... not that i actually have my car booked in to audi to get the fault checked........ it hasnt come up since! Should i get it checked out anyway or cancel the appointment?

Hmm. Difficult one as I've had the message come up on a very few occasions. But I'd let Audi investigate - it's under warranty and other than your time you've nothing to lose.

Just got this today, good weather , was on the freeway using ACC and it tells me some type of fault and shuts off. I drive 140 miles a day on the freeway , I need acc lol
