1.4 MPG Dissapointing

1.4 Avant Manual.
I just wanted to see the capability of this engine.
It was a straight road on A40 driving at the speed 40 mph and than 50mph.
2 people onboard with a boot full of asda shopping :)

Doing the same journey that my A4 indicated over 70mpg I got over 90mpg with my A3 1.4 saloon.
Unreal...
 
Reached on 6th gear between 40-50 mph.At motorway speeds mpg will drop to mid 50s.
Usually I am doing motorway journeys and more than happy with the mpg.
Better than my previous passat variant tdi.
 
I've hit 40mpg in my 2.0 TFSI driving mainly in normal Drive mode, but also sporadically in Dynamic with local driving. Pretty impressed considering it's a petrol engine so far and only 200 miles on the clock.
 
My new long run record achieved between Leicester and West London.
I have seen mid 70s on short journeys but this is the first time on a long run.
What is next 80 mpg :D

Certainly puts my 39mpg best to shame!

When I get mine I’m going to make it my mission to beat your mpg? Hahaha:D

Btw I get better mpg with Shell and Esso fuels.
I m disappointed with low mpg from BP fuel.It suppose to be high quality Fuel?
 
I have averaged 41.5 mpg in my 1.5 avant over 2000 miles and the longest regular journey i do is 16 miles. Just on normal fuel too.

I’m assuming 1.5 is a typo.

That mpg is pretty good. I’ll be more than happy with 40mpg. Anything more than that is a bonus. I think anywhere near 40mpg is impressive from a petrol 1.4 in a car of its size.
 
I'm currently getting over 40mpg on weekly run and thats been stuck in traffic each day doing over 300 miles a week. I've also had nearly 50mpg doing 70mph on motorways. This since I've done over 3000 miles seems to help the 1.4.
 
Back to my usual commuting figure, still pretty good for a 2.0l turbo engine:
