So I bought some used Bilstein coilovers from ebay and went to have them fitted yesterday but my mechanic refused to do the job saying the springs showed signs of clashing and were deformed. They appear to bend towards the top.

I'm trying to get my money back from the ebay seller but am just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the damage to the springs? The pics don't really show the clashing but the paint has worn off between each of the coils.

The kit is apparantly 9 months old and some springs are worse than others.

I'll pull mine out the garage tomorrow and try to compare them to yours, Had mine on for over a year, and they looked the same as when I put them on, they came off last month.

That'd be incredibly helpful. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is any help or not, but here's a photo of the H&R coilovers that were removed from my B5 S4. My memory is a bit hazy, but I think one or more dampers were worn out and so I decided to replace the whole set with new. I sold this set and the buyer made no complaint so I assume they were undamaged.

JG has kindly sent me pictures of his straight springs which I've now sent to the eBay seller.

He's currently saying there's nothing wrong with the ones he sold and that they're bent because the spring mounts on the front are on an angle although he will accept the return.

I've sent the pics JG took so hopefully they'll get it properly sorted.

nah I would say there is deffo something wrong with those springs.... springs are supposed to be parallel top and bottom otherwise they would have uneven loads on each side of the spring when fitted, also the one in your last picture looks like a wheel has been rubbing against it , my guess would be they are off a written off car...
