Hello, brand new to this forum and brand new Audi owner so go easy please! Recently purchased a '02 A3 1.8T Quattro Sport. It's in great condition for the age and is running well, interior is in really good condition i.e seats and door cards etc however the central AC unit and other buttons could do with a refresh. I have found a sticker set on eBay from Germany which looks reasonably good and wondered if anyone has had any success/failures with them? I am also looking at replacing/repairing other parts of the interior Cup holder, ESP OFF button and the small compartment above the ash tray. any insight on these jobs would be greatly appreciated as this is my first instance of tinkering around and having a go myself.

Cheers

Hi mate, welcome aboard the rollercoaster that is A3/S3 ownership.

I can only comment on the heater buttons as mine (S3 2003 BAM) were also well worn.I chose to buy a secondhand pre-facelift heater control as they don't peel,I believe you can also use buttons from another Audi of that generation,A4 I think but don't quote me on that. Some people have used the sticker option so hopefully you'll get an answer from one of them.

Here's what I did...

Thanks for the replies, great stuff to see! Tcg, that link was great seems one of the guys on that thread has used the stickers so may get in touch with them and all the other bits you have done look extremely useful for me. <tuffty/> cheers for that link too bit more digging around for parts is needed but will definitely have it bookmarked.

Tj0785, cheers will PM you shortly. I have uploaded an image with this (I think) showing the compartment I have the issue with. Is it an easy replacement or does a lot of other trim need to come off?

Edit: Image wouldn't upload so link below to view it:

That wear is normal for all the 'soft touch' switch gear Audi fitted in the era... its referred to as Soul Black...

You may find one from a later A3/S3 with the buttons intact on eBay if you are lucky... I used a satin black one when I did my double din conversion as this finish is more durable...

I still have a couple of spares (being the hoarder that I am) just in case :)

Yeah had a look on eBay last night and have noticed that it seems to be a common thing. Thanks for the information, is it a full centre console removal to replace the soft button fascia?

climate control unit is removable without taking the whole console apart... need to remove the stereo and the lower trinket tray iirc to get to the 4 retaining 'clips'...

Having a read from here may help too

There is some stickers for the climate control in the classifieds at the minute

Welcome to the forum.
I used the sticker option and it looked terrible. I would say dont go that route. Get urself a second hand unit i ended up doing that myself.
It is very easy to change over about a 10 min job. Just be carefull not to lose the gold clips that hold the heater unit in or they will rattle around in ur car and bug you.

Cool, thanks for getting back i have messaged another guy on here that has said they used the stickers. Always useful to find out from someone first hand. Guessing the second hand one you found was an eBay job?

When I done my double din conversion I found my from a site in Sweden and was a 1/3 of what they go for here, delivered sometimes you can get them cheaper from eBay.de aswell
