Facelift Help with Audi Connect?

I saw a TT-RS from five oaks the other day in Brighton.

Clearly the driver was a ******** as he had a cap on and didn’t look when we got to a merge point on the road. I let him in as I was looking at the car but still it was dickies driving - and my S3 Saloon is cost £46k as it is - so its more expensive than some of the RS3 orders on here! Lol

Anyway off topic - the noise was amazing. I don’t know if he was in dynamic mode of not but it was more than loud enough to know that the 2.5L 5 Cylinder engine sounds great. I can’t wait to get my RS3 next Spring.

‘an ******** as he had a cap on’ ... wow :seenoevil:

I think it was more that he didn't look when the roads merged! But yeah, nothing like a bit of stereotyping... after all, what tool wears a baseball cap in this weather!?

I think I’d be more inclined to call the fella doing the stereotyping a tool haha

No idea. My entire connect system does not work at all at the moment. The in-built sim isn't alive and using my own sim in the slot tells me it can't connect to the audi servers. Booked in next week for them to take a look.

No the connect system works for free during the 36 months free subscription, the only thing you need a SIM for is WiFi hotspot.

30 mins of fiddling in MMI had me:
Disable the data connection.
Factory reset the Connect services only.
Go into NAV to activate Google Earth and let that pop up requesting data connection is activated and enable there.
When activating Google Earth, tap MMI dial to right and login with PIN that you get when you create a myaudi account and register your chassis number.

Mine didn't work at all when I got the car, I assumed to test it they'd used a temporary PIN which was still resident.
First noticed trying to activate Google Earth view in NAV when it just kept failing to connect even with my PIN.
Everything now works for me, nothing else seemed to do the trick.

Ok so I’ve done all that to the letter and still nothing. Did you have the ‘LTE’ connection there in the bottom left corner? I don’t have it and never have which makes me think the data module is faulty. All I see is this:

Yeh I do have the LTE connection, sorry looks like you're going to have to go to the dealers.
Not really what you expect with a new motor, you'd think they'd check at PDI?
Seems a common theme with connect not being set up or tested properly.

im planning on getting a sim to put in the car just for data........and for the kids devices.... would it just work or is there something i need to do

Hi all

Collected my new sport back today which I have to say is totally stunning, and over the moon with it, just struggling a bit with the Audi connect and wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. I searched and found some old threads but can't see anything that looks like the latest versions.

I have an iPhone7, no additional sim in the car and the phone connected via Bluetooth. Can't seem to see anyway to get the car to use the phones data to run the Audi connect part and as such can't use google maps etc, when I go to the connection manager it shows the phone as connected but Audi connect as not connected.

I have found a section where I can put the pin in I have from my Audi.com but that says service not available (as I suspect it can't connect)

Can anybody help at all?
See my seperate post problem resolved today. common issue. Data module needs turning off on. Pm me if you more help

I had this issue last week, you don't need to use your phone it uses the SIM embedded in the car "Audi Connect Infotainment Services (36-month subscription) – the link between your Audi and the internet, giving you access to entertainment, information and search functions operated via the MMI control panel, the multi-functional steering wheel or the voice control system. With high-speed internet access in your car via an embedded SIM within your vehicle, you can call up information such as flight times, fuel prices, weather and other online services provided by third parties (e.g. Twitter), as well as Points of Interest and high-resolution aerial and satellite pictures from Google Earth™" from the RS3 brochure.

To get it working I followed the below (the below steps are from an S5 so menus may be slightly different):

Menu
2) Select Audi Connect
3) Right submenu (knob to right or right button for submenu)
4) Select data protection
5) Select "Activate data protection" - this switches off the data module
6) Data module is switched off
7) Wait briefly till the menu option "Activate data connection" appears again in white
8) Activate data connection
10) Wait for bus silence (ignition off, lock vehicle, wait 20 minutes)

I had the same issue and your instructions above are what audi training provide me but didnt work. Wrong instructions and step didn't work. Ive create a new thread with instructions that worked on my car. p...s poor audi

Thanks, very helpful. Screenshotted this and will keep it safe for when mine gets here in a months time :D
The data plans can be bought from audi are not cheap. Provided by data inside which is owned by irish telco cubic telelecom. 25gb for a year is 132.00!!

They say their selling point is that this plan can be used across europe with mk extra charges which is of almost zero benefit to anyone in the uk travelling in Europe. Bet these charges go through the roof when we brexit

Very
The cars wifi hotspot feature is the other way around, the car is the hotspot (when you have a sim in it). So then your phone etc can connect to it for better internet as the car's external GSM antenna give it better reception than the tiny one in your phone (handy if you have wifi calling on your phone, I got a blow out in a low coverage area and actually could only make a wifi call via the car's hotspot as my phone had no direct GSM signal!). Plus passengers can surf the web via it of course.

Agreed. Plus you wont drain your battery quickly as your mobile is linking via wifi. If you try to connect to the mobile network in a car you will kill the battery quickly as it keeps polling to the nearest base station. If it cant connect it increases the single strength until it does thus massively sapping battey power.

So I've had mine at the Dealers this morning looking into why there's no active LTE/4G connection. Having looked at the fault codes, it's either a bad connection on the roof aerial (doubt it as using my own SIM is fine) or the Connect data module/sim itself. It's going back in next week for 2 days for them to sort it.

Thanks. I did follow the steps you’ve outlined in your other post but the LTE/4G connection is not present at all. The dealer seems to think there is some sort of hardware issue but can’t confirm until they get the car in next week for a couple of days.

iPhones are incapable of sharing their data connection over Bluetooth.

You need to add a sim for full internet services in the car.

FL models I'm pretty sure do have limited internet via a built in SIM but not sure if it includes google maps.

So after spending 2 days at the dealer, the Connect issue is still not resolved. Apparently there’s a ‘common issue’ impacting MY18 vehicles where the LTE connection isn’t active/working using the in-built sim.

The message the dealer received from Audi was to not swap out any hardware until they’ve had chance to investigate with the potential of deplaying a software update... looks like I’ll just have to do without for the time being

I had a few issues with my connect, this is what Audi sent me...a few options

Option 1
  • Ignition on
  • Menu press
  • Settings press
  • Connection Manager press
  • Primary phone press +
  • Online settings press
  • Switch off Data module press and wait
  • Turn ignition off
  • Lock car
  • Please leave car off!! For 20 minutes Minimum

  • After 20 mins restart and Connect will be good to go
________________________________________________________________

Option 2A (if above does not work)

1 – go into Audi connect
2 – go to the right menu and select “PRIVACY” (if the car does not have this model refer to C below)
3 – Select option to Activate Data Protection – wait – then go back into Audi Connect and accept to restart the data module
4 – then get out of the car, lock it and leave it for 20 mins.
5 – get back in and test to see if the traffic and google maps work, most scenarios this will work. If this does not fix it then refer to service as there is something more to it.
________________________________________________________________
Option 2B

C – off the main menu go down to settings and then select connection Manager
D – highlight Data Connection and move to the right menu
E – select online settings and turn off the data module then back on again (refer back to 4)

Thanks for sharing. This is the same advice they gave me initially. I believe this will sort the issue for most but on mine, there’s no data connection (LTE) coming to the car at all. I suspect (as do my dealer) that the data module itself is faulty or not installed correctly.

When eventually sorted, I’m gonna try and push for the 36 month subscription to be reset.

So I got into the car at work to drive home today and bizarrely the LTE connection was alive for the first time! Not sure why its suddenly activated but I'm happy it is! :)

The 36 months starts from when you activate, not from when you picked up the car, so all good :)
