Does the rear tailgate open and close on its own as standard? As in using the button on your key to open and using a button on the tailgate when opened to close? Or is this not standard.

Closing via key is part of the advanced key package.

I can close my SB tailgate using the release button in the drivers door but not the key.

So is there a button on your tailgate to close the boot once your're ready to close it? Or do you close it by hand?

yes, a button on the tailgate to electronically close

what was the reason for your query?

Well stupidly, I never really took a look inside the boot/tailgate. Not a massive factor for myself as it won't get much use.

And.... I despise fingermarks on any car! :blahblah1:

Do you not have a closure button on the boot then?

PS I hate finger marks as well :rage:

I don't have my car yet :sob:

Should be picking it up next month and I will see then!

Im sure it’s standard. Enjoy it when it arrives.

Mine opens by itself every time I bend down to do something for more than 10 seconds :D

Ive had it twice where work colleague comes in “your boots open”

Ah shoot and run off to car.

Thing is parking is in a public car park as well so not secure.

Most cars have a handle on the inside of the boot lid for this reason

Yes this true, however the last part where you may need to slam the boot to allow engagement between the striker and latch.

From what I know it's only the sportback models that have the electric closing function.

The coupes you can open the boot via the key but you have to close it by hand and from your name it looks like you have the coupe on order so enjoy those finger prints :)

I have a s5 coupe and 50 other cars and manage to close the boots with the handle without touching the exterior and therefore no finger prints.

Granted an auto closing boot would be easier but it's not that difficult. I think the S5 boot is lighter to close than other coupes and saloons I've used.

Okay I'll give you that one! Doesn't look too bad :)

Interesting thing I noticed on that video in my s5 coupe there is an extra piece of rubber below the rear window that seems to be purely there to project any water from the boot lid when open into the boot. It appears to be missing from yours

With the sport back is there a way of limiting how far it open so that it doesn't hit the garage ceiling?

You have to open it then manually move it down to the desired height, once done press and hold the close tailgate button inside the tailgate for 5 seconds this will save it to the new position

Thanks, a friend incurred a heft bill when the electrically open boot of his M-B hit something solid and I am keen not to share that experience

Same with the cabrio as for the coupe - five finger boot closing only. Opening can be done via key or button in the door card (no advanced key here) but it relies on the springs to open it rather than anything electrical, and they aren't massively effective - sometimes it can take a good few seconds before the pressure is enough to pop it open! lol
