Hi guys and girls, I am wondering if anyone has any experience or can share there exhaust set up.

I have a B8S4 and it has a custom exhaust from the cat back, right from the front all the way to the back, it has an x pipe in the middle but no silencers just two small back boxes. The car sounds amazing to drive around but as a daily the drone is too much, between 2k and 3k it is terrible and a bit embarrassing if people are in the car.

I have been to a custom exhaust place this weekend and they have quoted over £400 for a silencer to be put in near the front approx. 30cm long box and the 2x pipes go in one end and come out the other. The only problem is until this is on the car I have no idea if it will work.

So can anyone add advice or perhaps share what silencers you have?

Thanks Guys.

BCS back boxes or scorpion system is the way to go if you don't want drone!

I have the exact same custom set up as you but I love mine even the drone although like you say at 2-3k it's a bit comical when your trying to talk to passengers

removing the x pipe in place of a centre box would eliminate a lot of the drone and noise too, replacing the rear boxes for more baffled ones or larger ones might cut down the sound a bit but from my experience it's the x pipe that gives you the biggest change in sound so if you want it quieter removing that would be the place to start, plus it's gona be cheaper to change one box rather than change two

The rear "Silencers" on the B8 S4 are actually also [Helmholtz] "Resonators"
If they are removed (or replaced by "Silencers") you will get drone at 2,000+ rpm.
As above BCS Automotive make the best compromise.

Have you considered a resonated X-pipe ?

When I spoke to the garage which does Longlife exhaust systems they said that they didn't think changing the Xpipe would do much as this is good for the car to help balance the banks.
The suggested the silencer near the front. I guess there is only one way to find out although its an expansive way if it doesn't work haha, its a shame its a custom system otherwise swapping parts would be easier.

Wow well I totally disagree with that sounds to me like there going for the easy option fitting a box in where the down pipe join is rather then removing the x pipe, is it welded in ?

Is this a custom shop or just somewhere that fits exhausts ?

They did mention the standard centre silencer also ballences the banks just the same as an xpipe but it's muffled and full of glass wool which reduces the sound and drone ?exactly the same as the resonated xpipe XP mentioned above but with just more sound deadening in it

Iv ran my car in various set ups and played about with the standard system which is well boxed up to keep it quiet, that's my back box in the photo above

Although I don't agree with what they said about the xpipe anywhere you put a silencer on the system is only going to make it quieter so if it's fitting a front one first then it can't do any harm just depends how quiet you want it

How much did they quote you if you don't mind me asking ?
