Hi guys,

First of all sorry for this post and apologies for anyone who thinks its chavvy, i'm a nutcase or should have searched the forum more :grinning:

I'm interested on the effect more power has on our cars top speed. Its easier talk about 1/4 miles and record them, just wondered what the effect of bhp increase has. Main reason I am asking is most new cars are limited from new to 155mph and yes I know they can have them removed .

Not sure how many driven their car at flat out on the autobahn or other legal means etc and found out the top speed on their std or tuned motor but not just for bragging (I've only done about 145ish mph, car had more to give I didnt) more specifically I wondered if anyone noticed with say at XXX hp they hit 160+mph, with 300+hp 165+mph or 350+hp , 170+mph?

Also what the most power over 300hp/ft/lb you have you run on std rods without blowing them? I'm sure there are a lucky few although not recommended who gambled and got away with say 310-30hp on std rods, not sure if crazy but weighing up if I should hybrid for around 300ish hp but for a gamble do on std rods.

Hybrid has a nasty torque output at time which will send a rod through the side of the block. Hybrid is the worst turbo to go for if you want to keep stock internals. Max out at 280 bhp 280 ft/lb stock or upgrade or buy a faster car.

I have read on here that 300 bhp is pushing the standard internals. Also at the age of are cars you are playing the rod lottery on when they will give. If i was you id replace with rifle drilled rods, min exhaust valves and gold cat cam springs and if ur budget will stretch to it get new inlet valves. Bill at badger 5 will sell what you need. U my need to upgrade ur fuel pump as they are old now and will not support what you need. If you do go hybrid you migjt need to upgrade ur injectors aswell.

Something I am interested in myself. This is my bbt hybrid 338bhp n 24psi boost.

I've already posted this in the video section but I've posted in here as relevant to thread.

Before I got it custom mapped and was running actuator pressure, car comfortably wind up to 150mph. What stage of tune is your car?

Whats the full spec of your car Sam? I think we have a similar set-up.

Full spec is engine rebuild, more or less, didn't touch crank, forged rods, new rings, block honed and head rebuilt with new valves n seals.

Bbt ko4 hybrid ported turbine housing
B5 China fold
V3 Tip
Jr filter
Toyo type b cooler
3'' downpipe
Stock cat back (baffles removed)
In line fuel pump

Set up works great although runs very hot, the heat keeps slacken off the manifold/ turbo bolts which results in a exhaust blow.

What set up are you running mate? Engine forged?

Mine has rods and supertech inlet & exhaust valves.

B5 AET Hybrid Setup incl Chinafold, TIP etc. S2000 filter.
Wagner intercooler.
3" turbo back exhaust by Pipewerx.
DW65v in tank pump.
AEM water meth with 1 nozzle on the intercooler outlet. Run at 50:50 mix.

So we are quite similar. I was just surprised to see an 8L hit 170mph tbh! I had mine cruising at 140MPH on the autobahn recently and it did feel like it had quite a bit more to give, but traffic wouldn't allow it unfortunately.

Ive had no problems at all with nuts backing off, but I can agree with you on the heat thing. It gets very hot under that bonnet even after a slow run. I cant even touch the strut brace usually.

Very well sorted set up that mate, actually myself I was wanting to go down aet route with supertech valves, meth to give me efficient reliable set up possible but budget restricted my plans although what I've ended up with ain't too bad in terms of hybrid results I think.

As said in earlier post car comfortably cruised up to 150mph before car was mapped and running actuator pressure, so I can say I wasn't that surprised hitting 170mph considering power increase post mapping, turbo pressure more or less doubled. Not sure how quick she will go before gearbox ratios max out?

I actually think it has more to give, that run I posted, most of it was negative elevation, and I had to negotiate a sweeping right hander at 140mph, had to back off. Traction control kicked in when asphalt got bumpy.

you guys have balls THIS BIG I have bolted loads of the bits onto my car.. and would not trust them at over 90

Love the light coming on at 140, proper squeaky bum time!

Sh!t myself literally lol.

Another clip here, gravity on my side here, had a slight tank slapper at 130mph, I got fixated on the state of the road so backed out early

You not worried about running lean through lack of fuel pressure?

I did 90mph twice this morning; once as i left home and then again as i slowed down into the car park at work

Didn't think about that mate. Maybe got away with one there. She doesn't half drink the fuel. Have an inline pump fitted, you prob hear it, so noisy need find a way to make it more quiet.

DW65V is your answer.

I fitted an in-line pump for approx 10 miles, it was ridiculously loud. Couldn't get it off quick enough.

Interestingly my car will still easily do 35mpg (motorway run) with a very conservative right foot.

Just had a look at a few advertised online and they are quite expensive, inline is very much the cheaper alternative! For now I'll put up with the noise until more funds appear.

Great vid Sam, This is exactly the sort of info I was looking to find out. By any chance have you gps verified how accurate the speedo is?

Anyone else for reference? I wanted to know how much power is needed for a comfortable 160+mph so if I do go Germany I would have more than the 155 mph

My car has a pikey map from the previous owner I think is 26psi boost. I had a dyno run at badger 5 a while back which showed 235hp and 280lb torque. I don't get much opportunity but I've had 145mph and it seemed like it had more to give.

GPS verified no mate. 26psi? That's rod through the block territory.
