Hi guys,

I am after a private reg which hasnt been issued before. RegTransfers said they can get it released for me by the DVLA but I will have to pay a £300 "finders fee"??

Can i not just contact the DVLA and get them to release it for me for free? if so, How??

Your help on this will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Deppends how rare or special is the plate. Also, how likely is it to be desirable.
Some plates go for few thousand £££ so £300 you've been quoted shouldn't be that bad?
Question is "how much you want that plate"?

hi, it is a desirable plate = 1 number and 3 letters.

i paid the finders fee a few months ago to have a plate released by regtranfers. It was successfully released but i didn't bid high enough at the auction yesterday so i lost out. £300 down the drain. There must be a way where general members of the public can get number plates released direct from DVLA without having to pay £300?! I have emailed them already and expect a reply within 3 days... so see what happens lol

What was the winning bid for that plate?

Doubt they going to do this for free for you as this is the way they make money.

If a plate hasn't been issued it has to go to auction first. There is no guarantee you will actually get the plate after it's been released.

I tried all this with a plate on a car that had been released and since scraped, but they wouldn't bring the plate back.

This is correct. I did this through the DVLA with mine, had to wait a number of weeks for the auction though. Luckily there were no bids against me so I got it for the minimum fee.

You can apply directly to the DVLA - Reg transfers do not need to be involved and to charge £300 for copy pasting a letter they will have on file is simple robbery. It would then be sent to auction though, so you takes your chance.

Bear in mind most of the plates they have on their website are actually available for less directly from the DVLA SoM website too.

You dont need to pay the £300 finders fee!!

You can email DVLA directly and ask them about the plate, I did this then had an email from them saying that as I have expressed interest in the plate it will go to auction for me to bid on, luckily I won and got the plate I wanted.

Cut out the middle man in future and go straight to the DVLA.
