Anyone know where to buy a pollen filter for a A4 B8.5 and exactly where it is located?

EDIT: When I looked this up it's almost as if this car has two pollen / cabin filters? There seems to be one in the engine bay (right next to the windscreen) and another under the front passenger seat?

Not sure if this helps but the B8 has the cabin filter under the glove box, you will see a price of foam trim with some plastic retaining screws, under that is the cabin filter.

For lhd its in the passenger foot well under the glove box behind the plastic trim

The cabin pollen filter that VW Group use is made by Mann usually, so go onto the Mann website and find which model of filter fits your car, and you should also find a set of fitting instructions on the same page, just in case B8.5 is different to B8. Also maybe miss out the carbon coated option and buy the latest version not yet stocked/used by VW Group, that is the Frecious version - and check up its price at ECP and if you have time, wait until there is a good deal on service parts, there is always a deal going on though and that might make it cheap enough. I've fitted one to my 2011 S4 and my wife's 2015 Polo SEL.

Edit:- £16.24 for a Frecious Mann pollen filter right now at ECP

Thanks for the replies, I check the Mann guides and found my filter under the glovebox. However, I didn't have the cover there, it's just exposed and looks like this:

Should there have been a cover over it, or did they remove the covers altogether in the B8.5? Another thing I noticed, it appears the B8 used to have footwell lighting but my B8.5 doesn't? I have the SE Technik so it's pretty well kitted out with options.

I got the code from europarts and then bought from Amazon. From memory it was a blueprint filter

That is okay, but what I was describing was the latest version of these filters from Mann who supplies most of these plain or carbon coated pollen filters to Audi, but in this case what I was talking about is what is the next generation of filter type.

There should be a foam cover over this, with plastic 1/2 turn locating screws. No big deal is not there though

I think that some else was complaining about their cover being ripped to bits - which if you are being rough with it, it will end up getting ripped to bits

Use the above link and click on Carprog2 and that will take you to an up to date EKTA thing and you will be able to find the part number of your missing trim if you want to get one.

Thanks all for the help, I took out my cover over the weekend and it turns out it was still in very good shape. I checked the service history and turns out the it was changed in the last service by Audi in Dec 2016. The filter is a genuine Audi one made by Mann with part number 8K0 619 439 if anyone is interested.

Really awesome resource there, thank you! I have been looking for something like this for months! Since you are sharing, I thought I would share what I found a while back, which is this: http://www.oemepc.com/audi

Essentially allows you to enter in a part number and tells you exactly which models it is compatible with.

Yes, but watch out for that parts site, I've used it many times since the previous link to ETKA disappeared, that oemepc one is missing bits here and there, you don't notice it until you end up getting annoyed about not being able to find the part you need! Also, it currently is not up to date.

Edit:- also the general plan was to try to avoid buying parts from Audi when the exact same part is available elsewhere, in this case from ECP if you buy the Mann version, or even better buy the more modern next generation from Mann which is the Frecious one now under £15 it seems - a bargain? I like to stick what the manufacturer uses as much as possible, but with a pollen filter, when the same is cheaper elsewhere were is the problem, and add to that being able to buy a more advanced version that so far Audi has not started to use - even better?

Another Edit:- are you sure that the part number you quoted is correct, is that not just for the plain/basic filter, these cars tend to get the carbon coated one fitted as it kills odours better, its part part is 8K0 819 439B ? (I know that VW fit the basic filter on fixed price servicing, which is naughty!)

I checked mine & mine is a carbon one. It didn't look too shabby either. Gave it a vacuuming the Dyson brush attachment & it was good to go.

Correct, the one Audi fitted as part of the service was 8K0 619 439. You can also get 8K0 619 439B (which is what I will get next, not sure if that is the frecious one though???) but Audi don't seem to fit that as part of their fixed price servicing.

I'd doubt very much if Audi and lots of others will embrace newer versions of these pollen filters on current or legacy model, just too much effort to update the parts listings for any extra returns they would get! If I were you, I'd be telling them to forget the pollen filter and you just change it yourself and buy a Mann Frecious Plus version for the benefit of your wallet and health - if they are better as they are intended to be. Going back to fixed price servicing, I think that where possible VW Group have been making small inroads into giving you what was promised at the start while craftily substituting cheaper versions of "stuff" where possible, as I said earlier, my wife's Polo SEL with Auto AC was fitted at factory with a carbon coated filter, but VW dealer, carrying out a fixed price service just threw in the cheaper option along with the cheaper option of oil, ie not LL and listed all that on the FOC receipt. Every penny counts you know! The oil I was a bit annoyed about as it would have been filled at factory with 5W-30 LL Fuchs stuff, and I think was refilled with 5W-30LL at its first service, now they seem to have changed, but only for prepaid or fixed price service, to using Quantum 5W-40. Once it escapes from its warranty, I'll look after it properly.

& this is what gets me when you come to trade in they frown upon you not having full dealer service history. When you know full well you can do a better job yourself and use better quality service parts.

Looks good, that's the one I am gonna get next. The whole reason I started this thread is because nasty smells keep getting into my cabin and my filter is less than a year old. Gonna let it wear out a little longer and then switch over to the MANN Frecious plus.

Let us know if you notice a difference in cabin smells etc.

What I will say is, it was only after getting lots of smells into my wife's Polo and only after it had been serviced which included a pollen filter change, did I check which filter they had fitted, the zero value bill showed that they had fitted a basic filter, but I thought that it was a mistake, so I removed the filter, found the bill was correct, they had fitted a basic filter, so to save booking it back in I just bought a Frecious Plus filter from ECP and fitted that, now back to normally no nasty smells getting into the cabin.

Last weekend I swapped my 15 month old Mann filter with part number 8K0 819 439 for a new Frecious Plus filter as per the recommendation herein.

It's a straightforward job with no tools required, instructions included in the box.

Possibly the best upgrade I've ever made to a car. With the old filter pretty much all outside fumes could be smelled inside the cabin. With the new one, almost all smells are eliminated. Apart from one slight whiff of diesel exhaust from an old taxi it has blocked everything including clouds of that stinking vaping stuff.

Great recommendation.
