I take back what I said then that's an amazing quote best get it renewed today before they change their mind :racer: funnily enough my first ever car at 17 was a 1.2 corsa that same shape and I paid £2100 for a years insurance. Vowed ever since to never pay that much for insurance again!

My first car in 2007 was the Corsa 1.2 sxi+. I was 17 and my insurance was only £700!

It's not just me then :D I feel embarrassed for him! He was going to change it a few months back for a limited edition new corsa...but pulled out right at the end!

'Un'limited edition you mean

Im prepared to pay £4500 for car insurance :) I work hard for my money and i already have a house on rent. I like to think of my insurance as subsidised as the rents paying for it. But sound advice on this forum i understand where you guys are coming from. Thing thats screwing me over is my stupid postcode because I live near bury in greater manchester.

You're in my neck of the woods!
I live in Bury. in 2015 I moved from Fishpool to Walmsley and the premium went down £60 per year.
Where abouts are you?

Its nice there, does that give you an 'M' postcode rather than 'BL' like mine. The Swann and Cemetery is a favourite haunt of mine.

Really?

OP, it's your dough so you spend it how you like. However, heed the sound advice regarding property/business, £4000 is a horrendous amount to spend on just insurance.

You might think that driving a S3 will impress the birds and make your mates jealous, but trust me in a few years time when they have forgotten all about it/no longer give a sh!t you might still be paying for it with debt. It's so not worth it trust me.

Hi guys just a quick update if i Put audi s3 black edition down on compare the market quotes are £3000 which is £1000 cheaper than what i get quoted for just putting a normal s3 sportback. But i will be buying the normal edition s3 not the black edition do you think its ok to do that ? Technically the same car.

Doing it for a quote is one thing but when you give the insurance the registration it will come up as a black edition, plus the black edition comes with things that aren't standard fit on the regular model - B&O, privacy glass can't remember if there's anything else.

Chris my previous post was speaking from experience. I was 22 years old and for my second car I purchased what was considered the hot hatch of the time, a Ford Escort XR3i. I can still remember signing the loan agreement in my local Halifax branch.

Like you it killed me on insurance BUT I didn't care, I wanted it and that was that. Yep, I got loads of "oohs" and plenty of "aahs" and all my mates thought I was the bees knees.

In the end I just couldn't maintain the loan/insurance/running costs so had to sell for much less than it was worth. I spent the next couple of years still paying the loan whilst driving a sh!tty Vauxhall Chevette that someone had loaned me. The comedown was horrendous.

Like I've said, you spend how you see fit, I just wanted you to know why I was putting my two penneth in.

Just a thought.

So we have all dictated to the OP what would consistute sensible or grown-up decision-making but it does presuppose, to an extent, his priorities. All advice has been predicated on financial security and property ownership, whereas the OP may be more interested in attracting a partner or, if the opportunity arises, several consecutive or concurrent partners.

In that case, the sensible decision would not be to invest or save for a first time buyer's house (neither of which are particularly known for being magnets for the opposite sex) but to splurge on a vehicle that has much the same effect as a peacock's tail. Coupled with that is the "live for today" policy which would advocate the OP opting for immediate gratification in the form of a brand new S3 over delayed or remote reward elsewhere.

He has had the counsel of those with more experience than him but only he can assess his priorities and objectives; if, having considered the same, he falls on the side of the "here and now", the S3 is the sensible decision.

Wouldn’t risk it, would invalidate your insurance.

Insurance companies will pick up on anything to not pay out if you have a crash e.g not declaring that you have painted your alloys black, let alone wrong model of vehicle.

When the insurance company runs a check on your reg, it’ll tell them what model it is in the first place, so they’ll know it’s not a black edition even before insuring you.

Is it worth a ring on the phone ? Because its the same car actually the B.Edition is worth more. Clearly the silly algorithm doesnt work :/. Maybe I can explain the situation to a person over the phone.

Mate it's not worth it, just insure it as the car it is... no matter how much you want to believe you'll get it cheaper you won't. There's no situation to explain.

Lol, I cant believe this thread has now turned into "its down to £3k instead of £4k"

Bargin central.

This isnt about preeching and yes I would have loved a car like this as your age but its outrageous!!

Forget my rant(s) my thought is twofold. 1 - if you have a crash in an S3, you wont be able to insure/drive anything for a very long time of any consequence. It also has a knock on effect for the other owners of a similar car and the statistics disfavour us further.
2 - the money you are paying a company (£250 pcm) for insurance is wasteful. Its a car lease in itself! This figure doesnt even include interest, if paying monthly.

Get yourself a standard A3 for 2-3 years. The birds will still fancy you and you may have enough in the bank at the end of the month to take one of the lucky girls out for a bit of grub.

This, just phone them up and argue they will 100% lower it. My mrs had a new tt 184 diesel and we swapped it for a new golf gtd with the same engine. The insurance company wanted an extra £220 to insure it for the remaining 4 months insurance. (Was only £500 for the year). I asked why and they said about insurance groups engine etc... I made them aware that the insurance group was actually 5 lower it has the exact same engine and more safety feautures so it’s impossible to charge me that much to swap. She spoke to her manager and 1 minutes later come back with. “I’ve spoke to my manager and we can actually swap it for just the admin fee of £15”. They just chance their luck the robbing ********!

I’d be surprised if they didn’t match the £3000 of you explained the cars to them
