2014 Glacier White Revo S3

Bit of a written update - not photos yet but they will soon follow

Stage 1 complete on the car and have been loving it. A good friend of mine has a manual Golf R Stage 1 which now needs a clutch so he is using that excuse to order up a downpipe and FMIC since the car will be apart. He asked if I wanted in and thought why not lol something I will probably do in the future so why not save a few quid on discount!

So in the garage I have:

Milltek cast downpipe
Forge FMIC

I also ordered the APR catch can which I think I mentioned above. I was told by APR at the time this would work with the OEM intake but unfortunately doesn't. I am therefore getting an APR intake to complete the Stage 2 process

Looking forward to the next few weeks in the hope of getting everything installed in time for Stage 2 map and DSG map. Watch this space!!
car looks great bud....making some great progress and Stage 2 I'm sure you're going to love....opens the car up...looks the part....bingo!

Car looks amazing! Have just done the same oem CAI mod, but can't say I can notice any difference, did it get any noisier for you? was hoping for similar noises to the EVOMs on the 8P :(!

Latest update - APR intake with catch can

Very happy with the fit, its not noisy and looks well, hopefully it doesn't start a carbon obsession!

Looks so much better with the pipe going under the intake instead of over, might have to grab one of those myself!

When you did the rear wiper delete did you disconnect the rear washer pipe in the engine bay, or are you just avoiding the rear wiper button ;)?

Yeah I had to get the coolant pipe as running the OEM one over it would have annoyed me!!

You remove the wiper and motor which has a built in pump. The water line goes from the reservoir to the boot lid so removing the water and pump will not activate anything if you hit the rear wiper by accident. I put a screw and sealant down the pipe anyway as a precaution. I have done that with my old S3 and Scirocco R with no issues.

Ah wicked! I've already removed mine, but was in constant fear of accidentally using the washer and filling my boot with water, so that's great to know!

I have the following parts to be installed next week while I am in Scotland:
  • Milltek cast down pipe
  • Forge FMIC
  • Forge lower insert
  • NGK/RS7 spark plugs

Then off to get Stage 2 map and eventually the Stage 2 DSG map

Looking forward to coming back from Scotland already lol

Once they are ticked off the list, I don't know what is next :( just drive, enjoy and keep it clean!

Great progress. If you're anything like me then the next thing on the list will be brakes. My pads need changing so I am using that as a reason to look into upgrades.

@Forbzeeee it has crossed my mind before but it is something that I have never changed on a car bar using OEM parts - I would like the keep my brake calipers as they are the optional red ones and just upgrade the discs and pads maybe

I am exactly the same in not having upgraded brakes before. I also have the optional red calipers so I am currently looking for disc and pads suggestions/recommendations.
I went on track at Castle Combe and the brakes held up well but my pads need changing (they've managed 26k miles so no complaints) so I thought I'd look into the options. If I can get more stopping power, and less unsprung weight for the same price that Audi will quote for originals then it's a no-brainer for me.

@Rob2k68 had a nice set up using EBC Discs with Yellow Stuff pads. Use search function and you will see.

Also look at @RedS3Reilly set up utilizing the Clubsport S Disc and either OEM Clubsport S pads or aftermarket solutions.

Both options allow you to run 18' wheels ( cheaper tyres for track days etc ) and utilize the current calipers with improved stopping performance.

Joined the club :)

Recently I had a Forge FMIC, Miltek cast downpipe, Forge dog bone mount and NGK/RS7 spark plugs installed. Got the map installed on Wednesday and now the car is unbelievable!

Sounds so much better and goes like stink - even more so! I haven't had a proper run in the car yet but hopefully this weekend I get to go on a spirited drive!

As far as tuning goes, I think that's me. Only minor things to consider would be a miltek exhaust from the downpipe but its not essential right now.

I have some side skirt extensions arriving soon which I am currently 50/50 about but will see what they look like on and I still have to fit my leather centre console.

DSG Stage 2 software will be the next major development but I am waiting to hear back from my tuner when this can be done :)

I'm wanting mine done but just need the time. Hope to get it sorted soon.

How accurate are the figures though?

I am lead to believe that a rolling road takes a reading at the wheels then you do a ramp down for it to calculate transmission losses. The software of the RR then calculates the flywheel power but the dsg messes that all up because you cant get the transmission loss calculation

@Revo Steve-W what do you guys do in HQ for testing power on DSG cars?

Does anyone know if there is any difference with having a Revo tune or a Quantum one? And talking of brakes @Forbzeeee I've just had red ceramic EBC pads and new design EBC discs as I wanted less brake dust and they seem to work well (not like they didn't before)

Other types of software fill the gap where developed software files aren't available and they often 'do the job', however the guys who develop the software are file writers, they don't purchase development vehicles as Revo do and spend months developing a complete and full software file and then BETA test globally to ensure the car will behave at it's optimum whatever the climate, they often don't get to see or drive the car at all either and just work from a file on a screen, this is why they can cover almost every model/marque on the market. Revo are VAG tuning specialists, sticking to what we know for around 16 years now, developing complete files in the real world on the tarmac, giving you the drive-ability and power where you'd want it, whilst retaining the safety perimeters and not having an adverse effect upon reliability.

With Revo if you want to go further, then there's Stage 2 or even Stage 3, just paying the difference between the stages, giving you mind blowing performance and again proven reliability.

During testing we saw an MQB 2.0TSi (same engine/gearbox as the S3) run an astonishing 10.48 1/4 mile in the South Africa climate/altitude, it's truly impressive what these cars are capable of with the right hardware and software -

I should have just had a REVO tune in the first place as I have now wasted £250 on a Quantum one. Thanks for the info.

@Revo Steve-W whats the process with Stage 3. Is it a turbo swap and software? Or what are the options and pricing ?? Cheers.

Hi Mike,
Yes, all info on website if want full details, however Revo IS38ETR Turbo, full exhaust, REVO FMIC, Revo intake kit & Stage 3 ECU & TCU software. Been running it on our 7R for over two years now, it’s great & has been bullet proof for reliability, very impressive. 0-60 we’re seen in 3.22 seconds, as you’ve seen best 1/4 mile to date 10.48, even seen 11.1 in a Caddy with MQB conversion & full Revo Stage 3 - not that it’s all about 1/4 mile & performance times, Revo has been developed on the tarmac in the real world, so the cars are as happy around town doing the family shop, as they are on the track.

Give your local Revo dealer a shout for pricing including labour time etc.

I saw that Caddy at Santa Pod... It was seriously rapid.

Got myself a Forge turbo blanket. Doubt I’ll notice much difference but for the price I couldn’t say no!

So, major plans ahead. A road trip!!

Since watching Henry Catchpole drive through the cairngorms, I’ve dreamt about doing this road.

I’ve driven through the gorms several times when my grandparents lived in Forres but haven’t don’t it in years.

My mum is 60 next week and originally from Scotland so we are spending next weekend there with all the family.

We attended a wedding a few years ago in Dollar and that’s where she wanted to go, so, the trip starts there!

Plan to head east to St. Andrews because that’s where my Granny Boyd lived and I haven’t been there for the guts of 20 years so would be nice to return, even for a cup of coffee somewhere

From there, head north and take the bridge to Dundee and go up to Spittal of Glenshee where the Old Military Road starts:

Bit more of a close up of the road and we plan to end the day in Aviemore:

I then planned to head straight back to Glasgow from there but then I came across another Catchpole video:

This is conveniently on the way home with a slight detour so I plan to take Dukes Pass and Crows Road back to Glasgow then on to the boat at Cairnryan:

Cannot wait. Hoping to get my Revo DSG Stage 2 before I go and my Maxton Design side skirt extension arrive!

Great write up about the road trip. Hope it goes well.

I have fond memories of some of the roads in Scotland. In the early years of this forum, when I had my first S3 (8L) we had a big meet and road trip up in Scotland. Over 250 miles we covered between Dundee and Aberdeen, at.... a very, let’s say, progressive pace. Wow, it was awesome.

I don’t do enough “driving for fun” these days.

Hope you have a great time.

Have any members had their DSG S3 rolling roaded?

Hi mate, just read this. Your cars looking good. Bit of money been spent too!
I've had my saloon mapped with APR software in Glasgow. They ran the car on rollers before and after the map and additional mods. It ran 391bhp with 416lbs of torque.
Have you had your software loaded with no dyno run? What kind of figures do you think your car is making? I'm interested to know as stage 2 is tempting once I Have my big brake kit done

@AB04DAB - 391 with just a map??

I would be expecting anywhere between 380-400 on Revo Stage 2 - that's with 97 ron fuel as we cannot get anything higher in Northern Ireland

Thanks for the comments

Mine has the VW racing intake with inlet elbow and turbo elbow, IKH spark plugs and APR DSG software.
Still toying with idea of an exhaust and intercooler but don't want the car to obnoxiously loud. I like it the way it is.....subtle on normal driving then sounding better when giving it a bit

I have the milltek cast downpipe with OEM cat back and forge FMIC - no major noise differences and still quite subtle

I did notice a noise difference though when installing the forge dog bone but again, its very subtle. Do you have your exhaust valves permanently open or closed for normal driving?

Mine are always open (even when in comfort mode) and the noise isn't loud at all.

...

Anyway, I arrived super late lol work, training, car wash, traffic etc... arrived at 15.50 while the prizes were being dished out but still manged to get some attention and photos:

Is it just me, or did anyone else think you'd had a camper van conversion done too? ;-)

Latest update, I have purchased a Forge High Flow Discharge Pipe which should hopefully arrive this week

Here is the OEM pipe which is known to crack if you have tuned your S3

OEM

And here is the Forge item:

Forge

Designed as a direct replacement for the OEM plastic discharge pipe used on 1.8T and 2.0T engines found in various VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda models.

Full mandrel bent single piece hard pipe with larger bore size for increased flow. This ensures high amounts of air are discharged from the turbo charger and therefore releasing the full potential of your engines capability’s.

Unlike the OEM discharge pipe that is prone to failure from increased boost or many heat cycles the Forge Motorsport high flow discharge pipe will not crack or fail ever.

That looks good - better than the CTS one I fitted to mine. It did however work as coupled with the Revo intercooler boost and throttle response were improved.

Yeah looking forward to getting it in to see the difference - sets me up nicely for potential Revo turbo upgrade later in the year if I feel like it

Throttle pipe should be here on Wednesday :) over the weekend I bit the bullet and decided to order the rest of the Milltek exhaust for my car. I have the cast downpipe already and its just something I have been meaning to do and recently it has been bugging me.

I ordered:
  • Cat back
  • Resonated
  • Non valved
  • Polished oval tips (OEM look)

Hopefully it will be here for Friday :)

I personally do not like the look of the round tips they provide - looks too big and too aftermarket. I want to retain the OEM look of the car
