Hi All

Sorry if i am posting in the wrong place, I'm sure I'll be told off for it. This is my first actual post. :)

Very new to forum's in general so any help would greatly be appreciated and I'm not always online but will do my best to reply as fast as possible! I'm also not that great mechanically minded so be easy on me please! :friendly wink:

Just recently bought an A4 B7 Avant SE Quattro TFSi 2007 - 2 weeks ago and car seems to drive really nice, pulls well, just had the Cambelt changed and a full service done.

However, I'm used to a biting point of my Golf TDi 150, where i just come off the clutch and can change quickly and it's a nice gear change. On the Audi, I have to come right up off the pedal pretty much to get a smooth gear change and even then it sounds like it's riding, is this normal or could my clutch be on it's way out? God I hope not!

The Trader i bought it off said it has been recently serviced by him (Hmmmm?) and no issues to report. I drove it and noted I had to come off the pedal but didn't think much about this. When i have bought used cars I've done the Cambelt change straight away and this has served me well on 2 previous cars.

Sorry is things like this have been answered elsewhere.

Any advice of help is gratefully welcome

Thanks in advance.

So when you say come right off the clutch, are you saying the bite point is high?
When i first got my a4 i found the clutch quite heavy and the car would jerk when letting off the clutch, over time though it is something i got used to.

Clutch is fairly high in these, how many miles has it done?

I'll be honest Max, not driven a Petrol car for years.... my last Petrol was a Mk2 Golf 16v and that clutch biting point was low, where i'd hardly come off the clutch and i could get quick changes.
This Audi, I really have to let the pedal travel right back up to get a near smooth change.

As for a heavy clutch, mine is quite soft to press, not sure if that's a good or bad sign......

Hi Rackers,

It's done 93k miles.

So, should i not worry yet with the high lift off the clutch pedal? I love the car, just trying to get used to this clutch pedal.....

my old bus is on 63k now and has a very soft pedal , well has done since I've had the car, I have to use all the clutch travel when changing but they are smooth changes all the same, as far as biting point mine is a fair way up but it's never worried me.
If yours is not slipping or dragging then its proberly nothing to be over concerned about, B7 clutches are all a bit varied to be honest.

I couldn't be too sure and all the advice from all here so far is greatly appreciated. Also what you say makes me feel much better.

The b7's do seem to have a longer pedal travel than other cars for some reason, which is why the bite can feel different , it will become second nature after a very short time, now stop worrying about it and enjoy the car as they are such a great car to drive.

Thanks, I'll heed the advice and enjoy the car.
After a Cambelt change and full service on the weekend just gone, Jesus, this thing pulls like the Dogs B____X!!

Am looking to get it Remapped too. Improve economy slightly and a little more poke! :)

Oh yes almost forgot , welcome onboard chap , you will find answers to pretty well all the questions relating to the B7 here and a lot of other really good info, all the bods are very helpful so if you are stuck with a problem or need some info just ask the question and someone will be along shortly after with a possible solution.

As allways piccy's are good so wack some on when you next get a chance chap....and what mods do you have lined up, all new owners say they wont be making any but they allways do..lol
Fuel economy and B7 2.0 tfsi ownership , now there's a dirty word .....if you drive the car the way audi intended fuel economy is the last thing you will be getting..lol

anyway enjoy the total B7 experience.....I do .

is yours an SE or Special Edition avant , the two variants are different chap and a lot of bods think they are the same but they are most certainly not.

LOL!
Thank you and still feeling my way around this site!

I was trying to sound responsible with the "Economy" mention lol
I did put my foot down after I washed the car on the weekend on a 3 lane A road and i have to say, the Audi kept asking for more lol

It is an S Line, 2.0 TFSi 217bhp. 18" rims and black window and grille (not chrome edging) which is what I was after. I'll get a pic or 2 up once I give it a good wax when the weather permits down here!

In time, I think i'll change the suspension, lower it, steering wheel change (Flat bottomed one) alloys at some point, but right now, not sure what. I think I'll be happy with that!

Oh and Brakes most deffo, I like stopping power!

I hear you all chuckling, saying, that will change!! :grinning:

So you are a proud owner of a mk2 special edition then , does it have the "DTM" ronal or rs4 style alloys....there was a cross over point where the first batch of mk2's came with the dtm alloys but only a very few , otherwise they had rs4 style alloys.

You have come to the right place. We all very friendly and helpful in here. May be best to hide the wallet, lol. We excell at parting you with your money. Once you become more familiar with the site you will know what I mean.... we have a parts request system in place if your after genuine Oem parts from an Audi dealership. Enjoy.

Hi Rob

Not sure of the actual name of the alloys but I've seen them on many Audi's non A4's too. They are 7 spoke with a 2 prong style and they came in 18's and in decent nick. A few grazes but 3 are in excellent condition and in a silver finish! :)

Thanks AL :)

Ha ha, thanks Sandra.

It is addictive even after Day 2. I thought I'd not be able to give time to this site but I'm struggling already to stay away. lol

The Parts request option is great to know!

Thanks all again. :)

If the car is jerking when u let the clutch then I strongly recomend checking your spark plugs...If they are ok check the engine mounts...

All audi cars have that heavy clutch and they all have that long pedal traveling thing not just b7s...

If your car is an SE with DTM rims then u trully have something special...nice 1 mate

Im looking for DTM rims if anyone has them for sale Im interested ( sry for off topic )

Zgss,

I'm glad I'm hearing more and more the Pedal travel is more so than it is not when coming off the Clutch pedal.

I think it's also me having to get use to such clutch pedal travel and also me not driven a Petrol in a long time. It's starting to feel that much nicer to drive but slowly getting used to this lovely car!

this was my old bus on the day one of ownership....but after 3 years and bit years it has changed a little bit , not a massive amount but just enhancements really.

I dont want to have headaches with 19 or 20 inch rims so Im looking for DTM alloys...I would also like to keep my factory s line suspension as it is...
I also have to buy the cupra front lip...

Rob, this is what i love about these cars. Standard, they aren't too bad to look at. Then do the enhancements you have done in the 2nd pic, looks the part! :)
Those are TT alloys in the 2nd pic or am i wrong?
I've always loved the look of those, simple but suit the car well, in my opinion!

I promise, pics will come , due to work commitments and the poor weather I've had, I would rather show it in a nice light and when it's not got all rain and dirt all over it.

God i'm regretting this next question.... as I will have many manyyyy more after this..... lol
I heard a nice mod to do is to put an RS4 Anti Roll bar on. a nice simple mod and seems a lot of people seem to give it the thumbs up.
So the question is, some people say there are aftermarket ones or get the OEM RS4 one?

Everything on my car is standard, any changes will all be done from my ownership of this car.

Cheers guys.
