I've got an S1 with Audi's OEM cruise control fitted and irrespective of speed or drive settings, when engaged, the engine can be heard and felt to slightly throttle on/off giving a very unpleasant "see-saw" effect to the drive making the cruise unusable. The frequency of the throttle on/off effect is consistent at every 2 seconds. Up or down hill or on the level, the fault is always there with cruise engaged.
Main dealer has told me software etc is all as it should be [latest installed] and accept the fault exists but don't seem to know how to cure.
Anyone else had this problem and know what the cure is?

I seem to remember reading something similar a while back, don't think it was here though. Have you tried Google to see if any similar questions come up?

Good luck

Tried google and others. It seems to be a common fault on S1's with cruise control but no solutions on offer. Some forums suggest a software patch is available through Audi UK to cure but my local Audi dealer knows nothing about it. Presently waiting for Audi UK's technical boffins to get back to me. Of all the Audi's and VW's i've had over the years, all with cruise, i've never had this problem.

I used mine at the weekend and didn't have any of the issues you describe. It was retro fitted by my local Audi dealer in May though, maybe they used the latest software etc?

Mine had an update applied at a recent service which fixed this very problem

Just got the car back from main dealer for second time and they appear to have cured the problem also with an update to the software. Smooth cruise control now in all operating modes.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there's a TSB for this? My car has this issue but my local Audi garage say they can't find anything for it and there are no errors logged with the car.

Would really appreciate getting this issue sorted as it makes having cruise control almost pointless.

Thanks in advance

It seems Audi (both my local dealer and Audi UK) aren't admitting there's any known issues with the S1's cruise control despite this thread or this one: https://www.a1-forum.co.uk/a1forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=159930. Yet they seem quite happy to relieve me of £100 to get it 'diagnosed' and undoubtedly they'll then apply whatever it is that others have claimed to have had done to fix it (apparently a software patch) and claim it was a fault with the car. My car drives absolutely fine aside from the cruise issue, has no fault codes, has never been remapped and I've tested all the wheel speed sensors using VCDS.

The problem is almost certainly that they didn't bother updating the A1's standard cruise control software when they developed the S1 and given the engine is significantly more powerful than the other variants is undoubtedly overcompensating for load requests. To me this is a design flaw which they're keeping under wraps by charging customers to fix a 'fault' whereas it should have been a workshop action to be applied at every S1's next service.

If anyone knows what Audi actually do to fix this issue or even if it's just to say that your car is X years old and has never had this issue from new (suggesting it actually could be a common fault rather than a design issue) it would be very much appreciated.

Hi Folks,.
Does anyone know what audi call this patch?
Is there a number etc that I can point my dealer towards?
Thanks

Mike

Good luck with it! My dealer and Audi UK didn't want to know without charging me £100 for a full diagnostics. I refused on the basis it's a known issue but unfortunately until I can tell them the details (seemingly only known to the previous posters on this thread - here's hoping someone will enlighten us one day) they won't budge on the matter.

On mine it only occurs between an indicated 69-79mph (legal speeds by GPS) but unfortunately this is where I want to cruise at on the motorway :(

Well just back from the dealers.
As expected their line was " No recall notice available for that car sir".....
Of course as the cruise was a retrofit by them …….

Sorry to hear that. It's my only issue with an otherwise fantastic car so it is frustrating. It seems to be a common problem with VWAG cars but all the threads on it never seem to end with a cause. I plan on doing some more detailed logging with VCDS at some point to see if it's a wheel sensor or sticking valve flap servo etc. When I get around to it I'll let you know if I find anything.
