Hi everyone new to the forum ive bought an a3 2.0 tdi and wondering what colour to do my brake calipers on the back of the car the fronts are already red but the backs have been replaced so need painting just want opinions on colour.
Cheers

What body colour is the car, and are you looking for the callipers to stand out, and why not red to match the front?

Highly personal choice - whatever colour you like. Similar match to the bodywork is one good suggestion. I always go for OE silver as I'm boring and conservative. :chuncky:

I'm having this dilemma - Phantom Black and was going for red but also thinking gloss black

My A3 is dolphin grey, going to be painting callipers black with hammerite black metal paint, it was a toss up between silver and black, but I think black would be a better match for the body colour.

Trouble is with silver is it gets covered by horrible brake dust , dark colour FTW .

I read "done mine in gold" n thought I can't imagine that looking any good, then the pics loads n I've got to say they look really nice behind them wheels.

Thanks mate
I was the same as I was doing them, I wasn't sure, but they are very understated looking and take a keen eye to identify them which gives them a quality look.
Yellow is too bright and red is too typical and I wanted to avoid that, when I get the S3 345mm brake caliper upgrade I`m going to get them powder coated gold.

I need to do mine soon as a tad rusty, do you guys use a trolley jack or will the supplied wheel jack in the boot be ok?
Do you remove the pads before painting and tape up everywhere.
Just trying to diy on a budget

I still haven't done mine since the last "what colour calipers" thread I saw months ago, I want red on mine (black car, factory "brilliant silver" wheels) BUT I have yellow front fogs and I'm thinking it'll clash, as the yellow is a nice shade, not the dull yellow people get when spraying them

Kingfisher blue A3 with Kawasaki green calipers will get a picture of them tomorrow

I use the jack out the boot but I support it the axel stands to, every jack I've ever had has broke haha, I take the pads out the calliper wire brush the whole thing pad carrier and the calliper itself leaving it attached to the brake hose, because I'm using hammerite black metal paint there's no need to prime just get a paint brush and paint away, takes 2 hours to dry so will probably cable tie it to the coil spring while it dries. as for tapeing off depends on how steady your hand is and what paint your using :)

Thanks Nathen , I'm happy with the artwork side of things its more that even though I'm 49 I've never had the need to remove and Jack up a wheel yet in 33 yrs driving
I'm aware these cars have a soft underbelly and don't want to Jack in the wrong place, axle stand placement too? And do I need to buy a specific wrench too replace the wheel nuts at the correct torque?

There should be an arrow along the bottom of the car at the side to indicate a jacking point, I'll get a picture tomorrow for u on my car to show u what I'm talking about and as for axel stand placement i just rest mine on the lower arm ball joint, there a specific Torque settings for the wheel nuts but I usually just tighten them up with my breakerbar putting copper slip on the bolts.

I went for hammerite smooth black with S-Line decals and lacquered over them to protect them.
Also put a cost of Gtechniq C5 on them to make them easy to clean

I went for purple calipers on my white A3. Fancied a bit of colour

Just need to find some decent pads to fit
