New SPECS sites (Notts)

its all a load of bo**ocks really.. that advert p1sses me off every time.. They use a heap of ***** car probably with a 70year old woman driving it! most cars from about '04 onwards have ABS anyway, so it becomes less of an issue! Has anyone tried to see how quickly thyey can stop from 40mph? I did, and it was ****** short! I do stick to 30/40 speed limits 95% of the time, but 80 in a 60 isnt unreasonalbe, obviously only if its safe to do so, and these stupid 50 limits on open road are such a waste of time!! Personally i rekcon that on motorways and such like, if you are caught speeding between 80 and 100, then you should just get a fine... over 100 then a BIG fine and points but depending on the conditions... i mean doing 110 on an empty motorway is harmless! Who is it hurting!

Unfortunately where I also think that 110 can be accpetable it can also be highly dangerous for a younger inexpereinced driver in an older car i.e there first car, with 4 people on board and they get a blow out.

The problems is that the police cannot really be allowed to distinguish between an older car e.g. Metro that has past its MOT and a new Merc SL. I think they should but hey this countries motoring laws suck!

I'm guessing that's the Ken Clark that you've got there. Not just some nobody then. It will be interesting to see his reply, if you don;t mind posting it. The Tories have a new policy where they promise to reduce the number of speed cameras in use... I've never voted blue in my life, but I'm tempted...

What an ****. As you say Moff, after the Bingham r/about, Grantham bound, you have the perfect opportunity to get past lorries/caravans and the like, although wait for a few more miles and you have the lovely straights near to Bottesford to get past most things /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) This is not to say that I agree, as I think, like the rest of you, that it's not always speed that kills.

They are a nasty blue rash that is spreading through nottingham. There is a new set in constuction ont the road that leads up from basford hall crossing into arnold.

This is a residential area ***! 30mph all the way - why the **** is specs needed there?

I think a magnetic pulse weapon is required.

either that or has anyone notice the wire that loops down from the gantry to the camera - looks like a target to me!

HAHA! Awesome. I know the MOD auction off a fair amount of exotic machinery that wouldnt complain if piloted in the direction of one of those crappy cameras. It's just doing it discretely, and a tank isn't discrete in the slightest.

Full marks for the poerson that towed one over /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I would have stopped an offered assistance! HIP, HIP, HORAY!!

 
I have been speaking to some people in the 'know' (obviously no the council or govt /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) and the plan for Nottingham is to SPEC the whole A46 from Newark to Leicester (possibly not on the dual part). There is also a plan to do the whole A52 from Notts to Grantham.

What a f******g joke that will be. I think this will be the test bed for the whole UK. First the SPECS sites were tested on the ring road and have now won some Royal award.

What they don't seem to realise (or maybe they do /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif) is that this will cause chaos. Who is going to overtake in a SPECs area? You will always run the risk of being caught. EVERYONE will be concentrating on driving under 60 and not above. It is only time until people are killed through this pathetic system.
 
Well said Moff,

In the last week there have been three crashes on the A52. two which closed the road completely and one which just caused delays.

All of these crashes were well OUTSIDE the proposed SPECS area and on the single lane stretches where it is not suitable to overtake. how many people saw the blue poles assumed SPECSw as active there and so took a risk in an area where it is unsafe to overtake ending in a crash.

The siting of those specs camera's in totally madness!
