Just picked up a 2001 AMK S3 and really happy with it, now working through the niggles.

Front speakers (Bose) aren't great (one blown, one on way out).

Looking through the search functions it seems that they fun on a different frequency so difficult to replace.

Does anyone know the part number, and do you simply have to keep scouring eBay?

Are there any speaker manufacturer that make a compatible speaker, or will a later model Audi Bose speaker fit?

Many TIA.

Thanks Tufty.

Looks like a nice install you did. I'm not big into ICE, just don't want bad/blown speakers.

Was hoping that there was an aftermarket alternative running at correct frequency or a widget that could convert.

Looks like I'll have to trace originals.

If you want to actually upgrade front speakers then you need to do something like this:

I tried various speakers on door cards and they all sounded awful compared to actual proper install.

The above work i did (100W rms amped) gave some almost decent midbass but not nearly as good as same year Seat Toledo which has sealed doors by factory.

If you want great sound you need to build enclosure for front speakers which means modifying door cards = lots and lots of work.

Overall great car but front doors are the worst i've seen on any car. It has more holes than sieve which all need to be sealed up except drain ones but this task is also impossible because of the design elements found on the door.

I bought a new Bose speaker from the dealer, it wasn't too bad, about £35 if I remember correctly.

That looks like some job Cleotra, I might consider doing something like that once all the oily bits are sorted.

S3mad was that recent? Audi still stock them?

It was about three years ago (Jan 2014, I just checked). And yeah at the time they still sold them.

If your other speaker works, pop it in the other side to see if it works there too because sometimes the amps can go Pete tong as they get dry solder joints over time. If it's definitely the speaker that's broken, the part number is below.

Bose Front Speaker (Loudspeaker) : 8L0 035 411

£35.70 + VAT

Thanks Vanilla and s3mad.

I tried the parts request, no longer available thru Audi.

So I guess it's second hand or bluearan.

Even if slightly lower quality, the bluearan must be better then blown. Just to confirm the existing front speakers are 100mm??

Cheers.

Has anyone else got experience of the speakers Blue Aran are selling? I've contacted them and they are home hi-if drivers, but are the correct frequency etc.

Wondering if the fitment hole (100mm), position for mounting etc look correct?

I would take my own speaker out to check, but I'm currently working abroad, so would appreciate any advice from those in the know?

Just to finish this thread, Amazon actually have the Bose speakers ending 411 in stock. Mine arrived yesterday to replace the blown speaker. Pricey tho at £80.

When I got my A3 one of the front speakers was blown. I got one from Audi for about £40 I think but this was a few years ago. Shortly after the other one went and I bought the Bluearan ones. The quality of sound is fine but they are definitely quieter than the Audi originals. I could be wrong but I think you had to buy them in pairs so I'm pretty sure I ended up replacing both fronts to balance the sound difference and sold the virtually new Audi one.
