Looks nice mate, such a shame we need to run a front plate in the UK! Just be careful though, I got a fine years ago for having my plate on the dash.

Hi Craig.....interesting the difference that mapping can make.....mine makes really loud bangs changing gear under full load, but otherwise no over run noises or any other pops/bangs.

Its not part of the map mate, the 2017 S3 comes with it as standard. Just the 3.5" downpipe, then to 3" split custom CM Tuning exhaust that amplifies it. Also if your driving after the over run you can tap the accelerator pedal again and it will do it again. You can basically make it happen on tap aslong as your over 2500rpm. Ive been called all sorts by people who have litterally jumped out of their skin as ive approached. They usually laugh afterwards mind.

Ok well escalation. Looks like im finished with the S3, had fun with it after all 10 months. Returning to stock and selling up now as i dont want to ruin a good (new) car by adding big turbos etc. Just cant do it.

So ive ordered an RS3 Saloon in Riviera Blue and this time i hope it arrives that way. So ill be starting a new thread with the new car when it lands. Thanks to everyone thats followed my build and i hope ive shared enough info to help others proceed. This car had more in it but safely your good at 2.1 bar for 500+bhp on stock internals. Amazing really.

Im gonna miss this thing but onto pastures new.

I will be back soon and all parts are available. Lets see how we get down with the RS3. Thanks again and happy ownership to you all. The S3 is in a league of its own IMO

Cheers
Craig

If FL RS3 is like TTRS then it will get to 500+ really easy eg stage 2. Should be interesting!

I was at Silverstone on an Audi sport event the other week and the new TTRS won me over. I also then drove the 8v RS3 pfl and the 2 were so different that it got me thinking. Stage 1 takes them to 480 apparently so lets see what happens. I guess the fun starts all over again!.

Well the build date never arrived and i was worried i would miss next season. So i cancelled the build and decided to keep the saloonatic. Which in all honesty im really glad ive come to this decision. Since then ive been having so much more fun in it. Started enjoying it for what it is rather tham being down about 1/4 mile. When all said and done its not all about 1/4 mile, its about driveability, fun and overall performance and a quick stab of the clutch in the mid range and its a case of hold on for your life! I dont "Need" any more but knowing im on the list for the next epic turbo means i started stripping the spare engine.

I will be buying the rods and pistons over the winter and myself and Chris from CM Tuning will be starting the build. The results ive seen from the new turbo are staggering and theres talks of more options coming.. it excites me to think what can be acheived.

Anyway, heres the engine.

Also will be swapping out the magride for Billstein coilovers and upgraded anti roll bars.
Then upgrading the rear brakes to a kit that matches the front. As most know i like to have one off kits where possible so we will be looking at retaining the electric stock caliper and a 4 bot R8 brembo caliper with a 2 piece slotted rear disc if all goes to plan.

So not just keeping it... going even further. Hope you all continue to follow me, i have most of you on facebook now so most already know. But for the ones that dont, well this is for you :)

If you were to forge the engine what can you take the 525 to ? @Craig Cull

What's the options after the 525?

I dont want to bad mouth so ill just be honest with what happened with my 525. Basically at just over 2.1 bar of boost my 525 failed after 1800 miles. In TTE's defence they sent me another one out but as there was a process that needed to be followed, it was unlikely i was going to get one within 6 weeks. I needed my car to attend vag tuner just over a week later. So i called in a few favours with friends who managed to sort me a Turbo Technics V4 out at another £2000 (out of my pocket) and had me it 3 days before the event. Whilst all this was happening i found out another 525 was on its way but i was already set on using the v4. Which caused me a massive headache. Lets not forget if the 525 didnt fail in the first place i wouldnt have needed to order a v4.

Right moral of the story... you have zero warranty above 2bar. If you do its at tte's discretion and there is no guarantees they would replace. Now the 525 is a dam expensive turbo and would expect more but this is the clause. Above 2bar you are on your own. They will make very good power which is a definite but wether they will last at that power... well thats the risk you the owner takes im afraid.

That said ive done 6k miles on the v4 and making the same power. Nothings changed, still on the same software, still on the same hardware... just a different turbo. The choice is yours but that is the full story. Also i used to be a TTE dealer. I had that status removed when i used a competitors turbo. Not the end of the world as im a bodyshop, not a tuner but still its not nice to be branded the bad guy based on a failure of a product that i didnt make.

Anyway enough of the past... we have moved on now and thats all that matters.

Looking at ordering all parts. Intgrated engineering Tuscan rods are looking likely with 22mm wrist pins.
All new guides, chains and gaskets weigh in at around £400. Then we just need to decide which pistons to use. Either way we will be oversized due to scoring on the bores of the block i have. Theres a strong chance the bottom end could be built by the new year which means we can stary running it in on the current map. Then over for a map tweak to run some more boost and timing

Ill keep you posted...

Then when the new turbo is available... well... all hells gonna break loose

I know mate i shared it on Audi Uk Modified this morning which is also my facebook group. Stock engine, 2.5 bar of boost on 105ron. Was going to have mine tweaked to the same but decided to wait till the engines built. Epic build!

I asked them if they had forged the engine but they said it was all stock apart from supporting mods. Not sure if I would run that power on stock engine to be honest.

Well as much as i know they know what they are doing, its still alot of boost to run on a stock engine IMO. If it had of been running 2.4 bar i would have been all in, but i personally think im pushing my luck at 2.1 bar. Others will say differently but personally i like to play it safe.

Do you have an idea on the price of forging ? I'm sure I'd seen the pistons for around a grand.

Pistons and rods in the region of £1200-£1400
Chains, guides and gaskets £500
Valve springs and valve another £800 ish
Then labour on top.
Just waiting on confirmed prices but i dont think there will be much change from £5k especially with an overbore

Exact replacement mate, just the trimming thats daunting. I felt exactly the same about the facelift grill. Had to loose it asap. If you get stuck just give me a shout. I could probably help on the price also
