Hi there
I am after some advice
I have just bought a A3 black edition TDI 2010
Which has the factory sat Nav unit fitted however I cannot get the aux in port to work.
The head unit dosnt seem to recognise it's there
This car came from the factory with this unit so it would seem it's wired in correctly.
Also in the glove box there is a sleeve looking device with what looks like a old iPhone/iPod charger at the bottom.
I have no instruction manual for either so a bit unsure how I get it to work.
If I cannot get it to work and I replace the head unit will the Bose stuff still work or will I need extra stuff to do that?

Thanks in advance
Chris

Hi @Chris Hancock, the iPod dock is factory - I got this from a Google search for Audi A3 iPod dock: https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...e.pdf/&usg=AFQjCNHFX2df7E915NKTv11_eKLYikzbkg

Re the Aux - the factory Sat Nav, is it the RNS-E unit you have? I could be very wrong but I don't think AUX and Sat Nav came together (I'll be correct ed soon). I had AUX in my previous A3 which I retro fitted the RNS-E into - the AUX needed to be rewired to work.

If yours is factory then press the CD or Media button a couple and AUX should appear. This should also work to get access to the SD cards un the RNS-E unit.

Thanks for your reply bud.
I'm not sure what unit it is but has a colour screen that folds down and has 2 slots for memory cards and a slot for cds.
It also has a aux in plug by the handbrake.

I pulled the radio like you said and surprise surprise this unit has been retrofitted .
Which has kinda annoyed me as the dealer didn't mention it was supposed to be factory fitted!
So how can I get the aux in to work bud
The lead u sent the link for is that a plug and play ? Or is this a ball ache lol

There is also a Bluetooth unit tucked behind the dash as well!

To get the aux working is very straight forward. All you need is the long grey plug that fits above the yellow sticker (not the whole part that is in the above link, you can get the grey plug for about £3) , then you remove the wires from the blue plug and put them into the grey one. Then it'll just need the rnse coding to accept the aux. All in all takes about half an hour from start to finish. There are guides on here how to do it all.
Follow this guide and you can't go wrong. http://audiretrofit.quinlivan.net/rnseauxin

Well I've been through the service history of the car and it appears the RSN-E was fitted at the factory only the Bluetooth and the thing in the glove box was retrofitted
So I have ordered a lead for the aux in hopefully it's plug and play as my vcds I last used couple years ago and after I updated it yesterday I cannot get it to work properly now grrrrrr

I have bought a lead from the bay that plugs into the RSN-E so hopefully that will mean it's plug and play
Cannot get my vcds to work won't recognise my interface for some reason

@Chris Hancock - if your VCDS is genuine send Mike West at Grendan Ltd an email, he may be able to advise. Grendan are the UK Supplier. mike@gendan.co.uk

You've connected all your wires, are you getting any sound, whether muffled or scratchy coming through?

It's genuine and the red led is lit when I plug it into my laptop
I just keep getting the same message in the picture

Also fitted the aux lead today the grey plug and ran the lead down to a new aux plug
Which took awhile! Still not working ! I guess it will need coding if I can ever get my VCDS to work

Are you getting any sound, whether muffled or not through it? When I retrofitted this in my A3 - I'm not sure why, but I didn't need to have it coded.

Re your VCDS, you've downloaded the latest software from Ross-Tech ah? If the connector isn't still doesn't register fire Mike an email - I'm sure he'll help.

Download the software from rt direct, then install then plug cable in, to another windows laptop, then see what occurs.

Yes bud I downloaded the latest VCDS software but still no joy
Not sure why it won't find the interface?

if it helps dude i bought my s3 2 months ago and the ami wasnt showing on my nav although everything else was working.. took it to my local diag place took a look and said it needed re coding as if there not used for a long period and the battery runs flat or is changed it deletes the coding.. i spent £80 got it recoded and software updated n now it plays all ipods even the ones its not supposed to and all usb and aux jacks work through ami :).
i thought my ami module was scrap.. turns out just simple coding!! ..:)

Thanks bud
I will look into the coding bud if my replacement lead ever turns up
