Hello.
I have my steering rack replaced yesterday. When i get my car from the mechanic the ESP light was on. The mechanic said that it wasn't his faulth....b*****d
I scanned it with vcds and it says:
00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85): Implausible Signal
I checked in roch-tess website about this fault, but nothing helps.
When my wheels are centered and the wheel is also centered the steering angle sensor is reading -360 degree. When it's almost full left it's 0 degree.
What i have to do to fix it?
It's a LHD car btw.

looks like he stuffed the installation up

i always lock the steering wheel in place (with the key out) before undoing the steering column from the rack. gaurantees no movement from the steering wheel = no movement in the clock spring... which is where yours looked like it has moved a whole turn out.

undo steering rack from column. lift up the link. put the steering wheel back to zero as per VCDS - line up the notch and you should be back to good

if it's out just a couple degrees do the reset on the steering angle sensor

The steering wheel has been set a full turn out. You can remove the steering wheel and the clock spring to reset it. You can then recalibrate it with VCDS. As the previous post suggested if the steering column had been locked in the straight ahead position it wouldn't have ended up a whole turn out.

This way seems easier. After i remove the steering wheel how does this clock spring looks like? And is it hard to remove it to reset?

I think you will find removing from the column is easier.

1 t25 torx to remove the footrest. Then a 13mm bolt by ratchet with an extension. Lift out the column(there's only one way it fits). Turn your wheel the way you need it to go. Button up

Removing the steering wheel = disconnect battery, get to the smaller screws behind the airbags (you may need to turn the wheel from side to side to get access), lift up airbag, remove airbag plug, you will see the clockspring behind. It's a black looking plastic thing surrounding the m16 spline bolt.

Thank you very much.
Can you give me some digram from elsa for example? Would be really appteciated.

Just pull the drivers seat back

Stick your head under the dash and you will see the screw in the footrest. Remove. There may be another little plug to remove with a flathead.

Remove the trim.follow the steering column down to the floor. There is your bolt.

Thanks again. I will try tomorrow.
Just a thought.
If i try to fix it by undo the steering column and turn the wheel till it's 0° using vag com to measure the degree i think that my wheel won't be centered. Is that right?
Also when i undo the steering column the wheel will be free to turn till infinity. Isnt this going to be a problem and airbag wire in it?
Sorry for my english.

Well if it's out 360 both the road wheels and steering wheel will be pointing straight.

When you disconnect the column from the rack there is nothing physically linking the steering wheel to the steering rack anymore. The front wheels won't move as you fix the clocking of the steering wheel.

Do it with VCDS connected so you can see which way you need to go to get it back to zero without overturning it the wrong way.
