Hi guys new to the forum here so go easy on me haha. Currently have an audi a3 1.6 tdi (2012) insurance up for renewal next month currently pay £800 all in.
Just wandering what the insurance price will be a for a new s3 on lease? not sure a lease will make a difference or not to insurance. Been running some quotes on some fake details but similar to me ( different name, same birth etc) and Im getting quotes of £4000? Surely that cant be right. Golf R insurance is £1500 i really dont understand the insurance industry as they are Very similar cars. Sorry if its a long post will await for replies.

Multiple things vary mate, no one can really give you even an indication due to how many different variables there are. For example... the difference in price between me insuring as parked:

-On the street
-On a driveway
-In a locked garage

Varies roughly £1000 depending on which I choose and surprisingly the street is the cheapest.

Yh mate I understand. But will putting my real details in for a quote before my renewal be any cheaper than using different details with different name, same birth etc . Do insurance companies keep a record of you ?

Don't think so mate, you should be alright. Wait for others to add their but before going ahead though

Do your own details and try. Also start the cover date at least 2 weeks in advance. Usually cheaper that way.

I found that a locked garage cost £300 more than parking on my driveway.... quite weird .

£400 cheaper to park on the road than on a drive and roughly the same for locked garage. Baffles me. However I suppose it's harder to decide what car belongs to what house for a thief

It might be due to more s3's being stolen nowadays.

How old are you? I would guess thats the issue, not the car!

Im 21 age I dont think is a issue otherwise i Wouldnt have got a quote of £1500 on the Golf R. Just dont understand why the s3 is £4000 haha

I pay £276 for on the drive, so if I change to on the road does that mean they will pay me £124 to insure my car??? :D:p

Yes. That will be the issue. At 21 I was in a peugeot 206 and paid nearly £1000 for that.

The S3 is a car which tea leaves like, its deemed as a higher quality car to the golf r and not forgetting it is over 300bhp. Would you insure a 21 year old on a car like that? I wouldnt unless I was being substantially paid for the risk.

Im not trying to put a downer on you but I wouldnt be considering an S3 at your age. I did mind you but the dream only lasted as long as it took me to get a quote.

If you are 'happy' paying the money for a golf r and the insurance, id go for that. It seems nuts but by far your best option!

Yh I get where your coming from. But the Golf r Also has over 300 bhp and is the same value pretty much. Want the audi s3 because it sounds alot better than the golf and looks better too.

As has been said, THIEVES PREFER S3

Every TV police programme seems to feature an S3 at the moment, I have another 30 months of my PCP, can't see myself sticking with an S3 after that as can only see premiums going up and up if the theft trend carries on.

Maybe the stats say the increased risk of damage as you move it in and out of the garage outweighs the decreased risk of theft?

Except they're not the same car, are they? One's a Golf and one's an Audi.

With regards to leasing, yes insurance costs more on a leased car. All the comparison sites will ask if you're the registered owner and/or keeper and, for a lease, the answer is no to both. The premiums will go up a bit as a result. I guess the stats say that people are less likely to look after lease cars which kind of makes sense as most are company cars.

UPDATE:
Got some good news got on the phone and spoke to my current insurance company. Willing to insure me on the S3 for only £1800 :D. This is with 0 years no claims so not bad at all. £500 voluntary excess.

The compulsory is £350 Honestly suprised with that. Thought it would be double that.

That's still a fair whack to find though in the event of a claim, I know it may not happen but if it does £850 is a fair amount to have to pay!

Ah just thinking about it as well actually, is there a 'young drivers excess' on top of the compulsory?

Tbf a 21 year old with no claims trying to insure a Skoda Citigo will be around £1000 lol. £1800 is a bargain.

My S3 was just shy of £150 with an Aviva multicar policy, however I'm approaching 50 lol

I hope that included the 'old driver surcharge'

Agreed, at 19 I paid £1700 for a 1.6 TDI with 105PS!!! Still drive the gutless lump of **** today, genuinely think it's more dangerous as you need 4 times the time to join any traffic to anyone else lol

It still includes a minimum £500 excess though.

I have however changed the s3 to a TDI and with one months insurance remaining, had a refund of £9

I just did my insurance for a 67 plate s3 black edition, with exhaust and springs. £500 all in, Milton Keynes area, 39 years old.

£250 voluntary excess, £300 normal excess.
