A decat will be problematic around MOT time, and I don't think it's worth that unless you have a big turbo or hybrid on your car.

The best exhaust you could buy for your car and any future needs would be a BCS system.....with that you can have a cat of sufficient size to run over 450bhp easily....speak to @BCS Nige and discuss it with him.
BCS built a 90mm custom system for my car,so I can recommend Nige and his guys wholeheartedly.

I did have a sports cat on the previous Milltek, and had no issues with it.

The new ECU runs some degree of anti-lag,and that would wreck a cat, although BCS can supply you with a cat that won't impede exhaust flow even at 500bhp +

I had my car trailered up to BCS,as that was the only option for me,and got some very good quotes through Shiply.

BCS will courier an exhaust to you so you don't need to travel. You'll obviously need to source a local fitter or fit yourself. Their sports-cat will flow better than decat and if it's noise you're after speak to them about their WRC version. Amongst the different brands there will be a couple of £00 between them so if you could stretch to BCS then you can't go wrong.

Another thing to think about is that I'm not entirely sure about.

Where does a decat leave you with regards to insurance?

If you declare it, the car would technically fail an MOT voiding the insurance?

If you don't declare it, if it's tested it would also fail an MOT?

So either way surely you wouldn't be covered, unless there are other ways around it? would love to know!

Technically, if you have a decat then your car is not fit for road use and won't pass MOT hence voiding your insurance. The chances of this happening are however very slim

If you were to get caught with a decat then the officer would do a road side check. if your car fails he will give you a letter (don't ask me what its called) but you have to rectify your car back to standard. Get it retested by an mot station within 10 days. Then go to the police station and show them the certificate and that the MOT tester has signed off the 'letter' saying they're happy with the car. If you were to do it again and get caught, its an instant ban and car impounded.
A friend of mine did exactly this and his car got taken. personally not worth the hassle imo - sports cat is plenty good enough for road use, which really you're going to be doing the most.

On the right lines, but there is no instant ban, the Police have no power to ban anyone, only a court can do that. Certain officers, usually traffic, have the power to test and inspect vehicles. This can be done at the roadside, or anywhere else.
You may have a friendly MOT tester, but they would be risking their business if they don't do things properly

A decent size 200 cell sports cat will have the same if not better flow rate than a decat pipe but costs more.

Save the hassle. Just have a BCS system with a Sports cat. More flow than a decat

Another point is, if you are looking toward a custom map with pops and bangs stay away from a sports cat will be a waste of money as will destroy it fairly quickly.

^ this as well, with pops and bangs the sports cat can also get blocked up resulting in melted pistons!
