Hi im Sam, ive just joined this forum after reading some interesting threads on here! Im a massive fan of the A4 Cabriolet, its a beautiful car. Ive been looking to buy one for a while now and one has just come up for sale nearby where i live. Ive spoke to the owner and he's happy to hold on to it until i sell my current car ( A 2013 Vauxhall Astra ) .

The car : A4 Cabriolet 1.8 Turbo Petrol (07 Reg)
Milage : 68,500
Requested price : £4000
Details : Black car, Black leather interior, automatic, paddle shift.

This might be a stupid question but it says automatic/paddle shift, does this mean you can drive in manual using the paddle shift, as well as having a automatic option?

Ive only ever owned two cars so i need some advice from people with more experience if possible!
I just want to know weather its a good price (with the millage) ?
Things i need to check when going to see the vehicle?
Also if anyone knows of common problems with the Cabriolet?
Not just bad stuff though, i'd also like to hear what people love about this car!

Many Thanks, hopefully i'll be a proud owner soon!

Hi buddy. Welcome to the forum and a good choice.

Re: paddle shifts, you are spot on. You can drive it in auto but if needs be you have the ability to downshift and manually change gears using paddle shifts. Imho, I don't drive my S4 on auto at all, paddles are fun to use (could be a personal choice though).

Re: engine problems. 1.8ts are pretty bullet proof engines with the only reported problems being the coil packs however these were fixed as part of Audi recalls. Make sure there is an evidence of it.

Other than that and given the mileage I would also check the water pump and cam service. Again, given the mileage and age of the car the second one should've been done either now and if it hasn't been it should be due soon.

Price wise, I don't know tbh as it depends on the condition, i.e. engine/body etc but it seems alright!

You can always use VCDS (provided you have one or know someone who has it) to run the diagnostics and find out all the small details about the car.

I am sure others will chip in as well but that's all I could contribute.

Thanks for the advice! much appreciated. The only issue ive had with the astra was the ignition coil, but an easy and cheap fix fortunately. Struggling to sell it and i hate keeping this guy waiting! haha. Hopefully someone will buy before i decide to do the unthinkable and sell to a dealer or we buy any car! haha anyone after an astra ?
