In the market for an S6. Been to look at two so far, both had about 140k on the clock. The first one had a wine coming from the back of the engine, the second one had a noise that's difficult to describe....it was kinda like an air rushing/leaking sound but it was also slightly mechanical, like a chain noise. This was also from the back of the engine.

I forgot to do it on the first one but on the second one, there was a fair amount of vacuum when the oil cap was removed and the engine started shuddering/misfiring with the cap off. The second car also had a "hunting" idle (revving itself slightly) and there was a connector unplugged on the left bank, under the throttle body/intake that didn't seem to go anywhere - possible that someone has been checking out the problem before an given up?

I've totally discounted the first car as it had no service history for the last 75k...it also had sod all oil in it! The second car is 1 owner from new, looks to have been well maintained...albeit at longlife intervals.

Does the above sound like breather/oil separator issues or something more serious?
