So then , another manic work day over and I managed to get home a good few hours earlier today , fell in the door only to be greeted with , look what the postman left this morning......ahha I thought new discs and pads , now that's very handy as I have a few hours to spare now.
So kettle on and choccy biscuits at the ready I went forth and sorted out my tired out rear brakes....
Wacked on some super shinney mtech jobbies with new pads, gave the calipers a good old clean up allround , job all done.
To be honest the whole lot, discs and pads inc next day del came in at a very manageable £69.00 , so cant really complain.....
I was going to do the s4 conversion a few weeks back but the guy just messed me around so much that I just aborted and went with a direct replacement size....they will do for now anyway, a lot better than what just came of ....lol, they were BAD...

off for a another cuppa now....
cheers
rob.

Just ordered them direct from mtech website, choose my variant and they did have the the correct 220 bhp avant model with BUL engine listed...not many websites do have that choice.....
choose what flavour discs and pads , enter there promocode for an extra 10% off and job done, they were here this morning (next day) very pleased with quality and service.

drilled discs seem to get a lot of flack regarding cracking etc but I've never had any issues over the years with them on road cars, and I really doubt the rears are likely to be effected by cracking, especially as they are solid discs as opposed to vented drilled used on fronts.

they actually look a lot bigger than my original ones , cant see why but they do, so another win win situation.

Rob I've got a question as I know your pretty clued up about the b7 model. What's the difference between normal b7 front bumper and the S Line ones. As I can't get a rs4 style grill for mine so thinking of swapping to a normal bumper so I can fit rs4 gril. Or do you know if genuine rs4 grill fits the S Line model

oem rs4 grill will retro fit straight into s-line bumpers as fitted to B7 A4's also B7 S4's and B7 A4 cabs that have the s-line bumper fitted ( not all s-line cabs have the s-line B7 bumper).
non s-line varaints have a standard bumper so it wont fit , DTM has a model specific bumper which use the same grill as the non -sline bumpers.

But just because a variant is a non s-line car it may not mean it doesn't have an s-line bumper, a lot of owners simply replace the non s-line with a s-line bumper, but the visual difference is very clear.

So I can fit a genuine rs4 grill from audi onto my S Line bumper ?

Ahh sweet now to get a quote from audi then

New brakes look really good Rob! I'm coming up to doing mine soon, do you think the rears require venting? Was looking at EBCs but they are much more expensive. Just wondering, if I go for the cheaper M-Techs, will i regret it?

cant see why, rears don't take anywhere near the abuse that fronts get, at 60k my oem ones were tired but not worn out , mtech ones freshen up the rears a lot and cant really see them being problematic either...

The look quite good Rob....but do you know you've fitted them onto the wrong sides of the car?

Just had a thought , maybe I should leave them as they are , a kinda special brake setup, for a special edition car.......when have I ever been known to follow the norm..lol

Other than aesthetics it doesn't matter what side they're on as they're not vented discs.

Bit late now but its worth paying more for the coated discs if you're going for the slotted vented ones, the recesses in the slots and holes rust on these fairly quickly.

thanks chap, I don't really plan on keeping them for that long , they are serving a purpose and didn't cost that much either, still plan on doing the S4 upgrade when I can find a reliable source for the parts at a sensible price, already been let down twice on parts so just decided to do a short term overhaul to my tired old 11 year old discs...

It might time to take this man's licence away before someone gets hurt!

postman just dropped off another set of rear pads, changed to EBC jobbies same as I had before as they don't leave huge amounts of dust on rims....the mintex that came with the discs will be kept as spares....I have a few hours spare on Thursday now so i'll be changing pads over and swapping discs around....oh the joys of car ownership...lol
