So the Audi A3 I'm looking into getting does not have a rear camera as standard equipment (wth Audi) and so I was wondering if I could just add OE back up camera that is fairly easy to install (just connect the wires and drill a hole into the rear...no connecting wires and all that). Will it void my warranty? My warranty is going to expire in 1 year anyways and im planning on getting extended warranty (not Audi but dealership). I live in Texas, USA.

It won't void engine warranty for sure. They might not accept warranty claims on items that have been drilled though (boot release mechanism comes to mind).

You don't need to drill a hole for the OEM camera as it's built into the number plate light AFAIK.

BTW, it's not quite as simple as drill and hole and connect it up? You need an interface for the OEM camera if you want to hook it up to your headunit (RNSE) and if you want moving guides then you might want to consider the R8 interface box.

If you have an Audi RNSE then there is more work to do and of course more expense. If you have an aftermarket HU then it's straight forward and costs pence.

From the ones I saw online, it requires plugging in to the MMI unit and then replacing the trunk release with the trunk release w/ rear camera module that they give you.

There was an aftermarket one that was pretty straight forward to install.

Lots of aftermarket cameras you can fit but it's the RNSE that needs programming. I have the Dynavin HU so it is just plug and play.
