Hi all,

Moved house, hurrah!
Insurance quotes on S3 before = £1200-£1400
Insurance quotes on S3 after = wait for it...

£6800!!!!

WTF

I know insurance is a joke, but this is taking the **** now. I've moved 6 miles down the road, funny as well, that before was in a very busy housing estate, and now I am at the end of a little cut de sac in a small neighbouring town. My annual mileage is the same, everything else the same, I just re ran quotes after changing address.

Out of interest, I tried getting quotes on my current car, a 1.6TDI, and that has gone up by £500.

Seriously at a loss with this, I see no other option than to cancel my S3 order, and take the bill for next years insurance on my A3 like a man...

I'd ring them and have a chat, as thats not a normal increase, of say 20-30 %, but a few 100% is wrong.

And of course try every insurance search engine, as they all have there own particular under writers.

The problem may be that there is some recorded car related crime within your new postcode area.

About ten miles away (the opposite direction to my old residence) a brand new focus RS stolen from driveway last week? Surely not the cause of this...
I live in a very close knit town where everyone knows everyone, the bloke had builders round doing work on his house extension, car stolen, spare keys missing from filing cabinet, coincidence....

If that is the cause of this then blimey, the world has no hope

I always use Autotrader's insurance quotation service to find the best deal on insurance. LV have been very competitive the past few years....

That's unreal, just for a few miles down the road. But I suppose Baghdad can be rough at times :whistle2:

Seriously though I'd question that with them.

Hmm, not managed to get hold of anyone...
However, took out a quote from my old address just to make sure, and all was fine.
So, took out a quote from my parents address (same town) and yet change the overnight parking location to my new place, and all was fine.

Technically wrong as I don't live there??? Everyone has to play the game I guess

That's fraud and the insurance company would have every right to void your policy st any point, don't be a plum!

Hopefully if you contact them to update your address you will only be charged an admin fee and a slight increase on the premium. Worth a go.

I wouldn't, any excuse not to pay out and they won't! Straight away you will be flagged up, insurance companies talk to each other, your name and details on the house insurance will show a different address....they aren't stupid!

Plus if you are pulled over by the police they could in theory confiscate the car for not being insured. Don't risk it

Anyhow, contacted insurance companies that quoted me at the old place, and they just give the same old crap that there is nothing they can do.
I've let me dealership know that chances are I won't be taking the car. Just renewed on my A3 for 60% more than last year
Maybe I'll try again in the future and take in in stock car from somewhere.
I hope you'll all hear from me at some point in the future with better news!

Sad to hear that, insurance is pretty shocking really - guess we can all understand increases but the amount they increase it is often ridiculous!

Daughter has Sportback TDi S Line, both places driveway parking , but no garage.

lived in Prestatyn , insurance OK.
moved to sleepy Dyserth three miles away, very quiet..... insurance went up £80 year ( after usual / various discounts.)

Reason: Postcode, Dyserth comes under Rhyl for postcodes - seems Rhyl is much less safe!
