Hi,

Over the last few days my plan to find a good quality wax for my 18 month old Audi A1 in metallic black has turned into a nightmare as I'm now totally confused. Some people says their product is the best then another person rubbished the product, and so it goes on and on. Then my head fell off.

At present I use autoglym super resin polish followed by a coat of HD wax, although I did use Autoglym HD cleanser, but that's no longer available.

A few look good such as Swissvax Shield or Onyx, Blackfire midnight sun ivory wax, Pinnacle Souveran paste wax or thier signature wax. So without getting even more confused, any opinions on these?

Best wax I've used to date - Navi Wax Ulimate.

Would like to try Swissvax at some stage, as I've seen some great results with it.

Totally agree with the "reading reviews" makes you non the wiser at times!

I don't use wax anymore since the synthetic coatings are so good but when i did i found the best value wax was R222 blue lid after 10 years of trying different ones

Just pick one! Sure the perfectionist has to pick the "best" one, but I'm sure most of the ones you mentioned are fantastic anyway? The "best" is going to subjective anyway.

The majority of the looks are I'm the preparation. So pick one based on your own preference from the reviews e.g. cost, ease of use, longevity rather than looks

yeah good prep is the key as in most things in life. there are differences in waxes and the finish they achieve ive spent a fortune and in laymans terms most of the people at work do not notice any difference jsut say car looks clean. I notice and ive also found certain waxes suit different paintwork better. I keep a stock of different waxes because i detail customers cars in my spare time aswell.

hands down for just a glossy finish definitive wax - cora is amazing as is obisidan and white noise by wax planet. maybe get the tester tins and have a play around. i'm forever stripping back and trying out something new on my cars i find it quite relaxing after a week stuck in a office

That's a good tip from Robps3 about buying sample sizes. With some waxes you will probably have died before using it all !!!

i use this place, no connection to them, but i just order a ton of products to try more than half never are that good so it saves me a fortune and i get to try out different products. For some real gems by doing it this way

Ive got to slightly disagree as i didnt have time to clay my car so did a good wash then used chemical guy butter wet wax and its the best my car as ever come out even over meg wax and auto hd wax.

@martin1984 if you don't prep your paintwork properly, ie you wax over tar spots or any type of fallout your results will never be as good as claying the car and using a product like IronX (plenty others). If the paint is bare it'll give you a "free from" canvas to apply your products.

Back to black cars. The combo I've previously used was (after prepping and swirl removal) was PoorBoys Blackhole topped with CG BWW. However, if I was doing a black car again I'd ceramic/nano coat it with Gtechniq or CarPro Cquartz Uk or similar! It's then a wash and spray with CarPro Reload and jobs done. Makes keeping a black car much more user friendly.
Detailing is a very subjective art!! Opinions are like ar$eholes, everyone has one! Go with what you feel comfortable with and works for you, but please ditch the AG SRP :tonguewink::tonguewink:

@Scottyg i understand about prep hence why when i plan my day proply i give myself time to wash clay compond polish them wax but you can get good results with good products without some of the prep work also my car is sliver which ive found the hardest colour to look good after spending hour cleaning it. But your right in as every one has there own way and like i said the g/c butter wet wax wash great someone else might say it was pants for them.

Butter Wet Wax was one of my favourites. Smells very nice as well and extremely easy to use.

How did you find the durability of BWW? I agree it was extremely easy to use but I felt it didn't last very long.

I like applying wax to my car, find it peaceful for some reason. Can't use wax over most sealants can you?

I ordered some wax from Obsession Wax after having them recommended by @Bristle Hound and can honestly say the results are fantastic. Ordered the Phantom wax after speaking to Jay from Obsession Wax. Very helpful and friendly. So if you're still undecided give him an email and he'll answer any questions you have.

I'm not really a fan of waxes but recently tried Auto finesse fusion https://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/fusion-150g which was ok but a bit hard to take off but I've just tried there new Radiance https://shop.autofinesse.co.uk/radiance-500ml which is a Creme & it is so easy to use & leaves a great shine you could do it every other week if you wanted too.

Bilt Hamber double speed wax and it only costs about £15 with great results imo

Hi,

An update on my mission to buy a new wax for my car.

I decided on the Swissvax Entry Collection kit from Slim's Detailing who were brilliant with their advice, and an added bonus was the discount, so very pleased.

I now need a few days with dry weather to clean and wax the car.

Thanks everyone for your comments, especially about the preparing the paintwork before waxing the car.

Hi,

After a long day working on the car, I have to say the results are well worth the effort and the cost of the Swissvax products.

The day went like this:

Snow foamed the car and let it soak for a while, then rinsed it off.
Washed the car with Swissvax Car Bath using lambs wool wash mitt.
Dried using the pat method - to the amusement of my neighbours.
Clayed the car using BH Soft, split into four pieces and a spray bottle of water. Worth the effort and only annoying thing was I dropped one piece on the clay on the ground, so that bit went in the bin.
Washed the car again using Swissvax Car Bath, but this time using a Swissvax Waschpudel.
Dried using pat method.
Used Swissvax Cleaner Fluid Regular with a Swissvax Cotton applicator - method was back and forth, crosswise motion, then polished using short left and right strokes with Swissvax Micro-Fluffy (grey edged one)
Applied Swissvax Shield Wax one panel at a time using Swissvax Black applicator and let it set for about 7 minutes making sure it does not dry.
Polish using Swissvax Micro-Fluffy (red edged one).
All door shuts had the same treatment listed above, as did the grill, inside the tailgate and under the bonnet.
Left the car in the sun and over time this enhances the lustre. This actually worked as I was a bit sceptical it was hype.

Before all the above was started the wheels were cleaned using Autoglym non acid wheeel cleaner and sealed with Rim Wax.
Tyres dressed using Swissvax Pheu.

Tomorrow I plan to polish the glass and clean the inside, as after nearly six hours I need a rest!
