The end of the road?

They have gone complete bonkers in their 'policy making' @jdp1962. Unless they make alternative sources readily available and widely accepted I don't know how they are going to achieve it.

The current electric car takes good couple of hours to fully charge, the manufacturers will have to come up with ways to be able to charge the batteries in less than 30 mins if this model was to be sustainable at all. But this is if electric the only option, which also means to generate that much electricity, I don't know if the wise men sitting in Cabinet office have the vision to think beyond the term they are elected for.

And forgot to mention the clean energy as well. Unless they have already decided that electricity generated for these cars will also come from a clean source.

Or perhaps paddle cars is what is on their minds

So maximum range a present form a battery powered car is 332 miles which is the Tesla Model S and that has a price tag of £90,000. Now if you don't have £90,000 then a £12,000 fiesta will get you between 300-400 miles from a tank of fuel.. Can anyone see the issue here.. Will only the rich be able to drive cars in 2040??

Battery's are not the way forward, they are highly polluting to make and you will be very lucky if they are still giving the same mileage after 3 years of charging. Also the cost of replacement battery packs would be crippling to most people even the Nissan leaf is £4,920 to replace the battery's, god only know how much the Tesla's batteries are.... EDIT Tesla Battery replacement will be around £25,000 ***, who but the wealthy could afford to run these car's!!

Governments need to give there heads a shake, and talk with the motor industry as well as the environmental parties.

Batteries will never be the way forward, unless there is a break through in the technology & charging, after all it take 3 minutes to fill your tank v 30-1hour to get 60-70% charge from a battery.

Perhaps, it is a huge comeback of Flinstones type cars and the earth will be called "Bedrock"?

It. Would make long distance journeys almost impossible!

I've just driven 1000 on two tanks of fuel , would need at least three charges to do that !

Maybe a food for thought for our railway engineers to come up with hydro powered EuroRail. Perhaps an inexpensive way would be to have 'charging points' for the train and North Sea, Mediterranean, Black Sea and Atlantic :hubbahubba:

Not to mention time wasted to charge the battery.

If the cars supposed to be all electric or hybrid with today's technology, batteries will create loads of toxic waste to the environment when needing replacement.

Unless, they know something that We don't ?

They're going to put the spent toxic batteries in a rocket and shoot it off into space .

Another thought ...

Petrol station's will not be needed? Oh NO ! Where am I going to by all that sh...t I need to continue my journey if there will be no fuel?
Maybe they will replace fuel pumps with electricity outlets which will charge a car within same time what We use now to fill up our tank's?
Maybe it will be chargeable electricity, like fuel, by the kw?
Maybe all these Indian Sheik's and Oil Baron's will start digging deeper to the earth to look for electricity now?
Maybe they going to still extract the oil and run huge electricity generators to produce 10 or 100x more electricity worth as oil is?

OMG ! So many questions but fewer answers !

I'm getting mad now !:shutup2:

Precisely, as there is no enough room on the earth.

I'm sure it is happening now with toxic waste, anyway.

The bit that concerns me is human error , when someone with a petrol car , fills up with electricity .

Having worked for mitsubishi and done many thousands of miles in the PHEV. I can say I'd rather walk than drive one permanently !

Claimed range is in unachievable and once you start running the petrol engine my a4 is getting double the mpg!

Wow! Read only quarter of it and already have goosebumps with scare feeling at the back of my head.
It is really happening:bye:

Still going mad over the answers as to too many questions, tho :shutup2:

to be honest nothing he says seems impossible

They have been saying for year we use to much electric and will soon face black out as a normal so how will it work with cars drawing on the grid ???

Listening to an " Expert " on the radio this afternoon & he said a jumbo jet flying from New York to London puts out more pollution than my 1.9 tdi will in 34 years.

But that pollution isn’t in London, which is the only part of the country the government considers

Could not give two hoots. I be well retired and living abroad by then!

YES!!

This is a party that's got to be seen to be doing something to keep the do gooders happy. It's meaningless at the minute and is nothing more than a bit publicity for themselves.

How many U turns on policy have this load of muppets performed already, I think you are getting worked up over nothing :friends:

I will be too old to worry about this come 2040, and they have 23 years to make an electric car do 500 miles on one charge! The fututre is bright!! lol

Nothing to worry about in my opinion.
